"Fandoms" are embarrassing in general.

I personally liked the sequels, and I personally love the Disney series.

I'm just being realistic and calling out the bullshit.

Memes don't make a movie good. Jar Jar was far from the only problem with the prequels. I enjoyed them and I am happy they're getting recognition in the new generation, but please, lets not make them as if they are platinum tier movies.

I'm not "one of those" but thanks for the judgement, really appreciate it. I just came from the generation where people use to verbally attack me for liking any of the preuqle movies and put Jake Lloyd on suicide watch, put hayden christensen nearly out of career, sent death threats to George Lucas, and have personally seen grown ass men buy and burn Jar Jar toys and yelled at people who would purchase any at a local Toys R Us.

This "sequel era" is absolutely nothing compared to the chaos that emerged in the prequel era. I wasn't around during the great Empire fiasco and the whole "kill all the ewoks" era, but I'm sure that was a doozy too.

Star Wars fans are just obsessive in a way of life that in the end, are just fun kids movies.

I love that fireside scene...with the sound turned down. It's like watching a silent movie and I don't mean that in the obvious way, I mean that the acting and production design really conveys what's going on. But turn the sound on and it's some of the most wretched dialogue I've ever heard in a movie. Oh, George.

You can't deny his visual artistry, that's for sure. Even as someone who barfs at prequel CGI I can still say that.

I can't believe this crap again once again you are stating your OPINION. I find it rude when someone abrasively states their opinion as fact. I don't think anyone should preface that they are station an opinion obviously but I do feel the need to remind someone when they state it being with intent to be an ******* and look down on others who don't see it your way.

[Show spoiler]Most of that prequel cg is actually practical effects. Granted there are bad shots, but the use of cg is way overemphasized.

Lucas is amazing when it comes to scenes with minimal dialogue like that. It's why imo these are 3 of the best prequel scenes

He would have been a great silent film director

As I stated previously I was the perfect age to see the OT when they were released. I know the PT is far from perfect. But I appreciate what Lucas tried to accomplish. Also my childhood wasn’t ruined when Lucas altered the OT. Why? Because I don’t watch those bastardized versions.

There might be a lot of practical effects in the PT, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t also tons of CGI, too. Doesn’t almost every shot in the PT have CGI in it? The fact is the OT looks natural and the PT doesn’t, so it doesn’t really matter how many practical effects they used. Just because they used real lava doesn’t mean they didn’t also have CGI lava mixed in. I doubt anyone watches the battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin in ROTS and thinks, “Wow, look at that natural lava among the fake lava and all the other fake stuff in the scene.”

Yep, fun fact, Captain America: The Winter Soldier has more vfx shots then any one of the SW prequels. CG isn't bad, we often don't notice it.

The thing is though, the prequels came out in a time when cg was still developing. They practically pioneered modern cg. People hold it against the prequels for using so much, but it was done for a reason. It let George do the "impossible". Take for instance the clone troopers, which were a mix of cg and costumed actors.

Like this shot. Sure it may look "fake" by modern standards, but cg allowed the film to show off movement in a way you never would be able to with guys in suits. When you compare it to fight scenes in the ot, the extra movement allowed is much more prevalent.

:P

OT cg tends to look more natural because it tends to be real things. Take endor, which was heavily blue screen based. They just had to input a forest. Tatooine. Just a desert. The prequels were creating new environments. Coruscant for instance required them to design a sci-fi city.

I grew up on the OT, born in 1970, and those to me are the 'real deal', but I really enjoy the PT. Such great music and epic scenes. I look at the prequels as the rollercoaster ride version of the movies, and completely enjoy them as such. I can see the huge gaping flaws that everyone points out about them, but I just don't look at it that way while watching. Even the cheesiest of bits are covered by the old-timey serial idealism, right?

I have always maintained, it’s not solely the quality of the CGI that is detrimental, but the clumsy use in its infancy suffered the composition and structural continuity. The reason the clones war scene above is difficult to look at compared to the falling AT AT, is the objective design elements that control the viewers perception within the frame are sacrificed in favor of managing the massive amount of digital information.

The prequels can be respected for their technical achievements but they were not enough to carry the films.

They didn't even make a clone trooper costume. At most there was some mocap for certain scenes.

That's fair. I was using the walker falling as a joke in regards to the ot "holding up", not actually as a comparison. It's a perfectly fine shot on its own, just obvious that its a toy is all (though I won't hold that against it). Though while on the topic, I'd argue there are plenty of well designed cg moments. Particularly this shot, which captures the sense of scale and uniformity among the clones

Thank you, I must have gotten mixed up and was thinking of them making Jango's costume physically.

Making all the clones CGI is probably the most stupid decision Lucas made regarding the visual aspect of the prequels (besides shooting II and III on video). They cheapen the movies immensely and kind of negate all the practical effects. They are CGI even in closeups or where it would obviously be cheaper, easier and look a million times better to do it for real. His obsession with CGI is ridiculous.
