Personally I'm holding out for the "ULTIMATE [this is actually the version I've intended all along] Blu Ray" set, I'm hoping for a booming "NOOO!" after every single sentence that Vader speaks, even if it makes the dialogue make absolutely no sense. Every one. Also hoping for Jar Jar's father (whose name is Shit Head I believe) to make an appearance. I hope every so-bad-it's-funny element from the PT is worked into the OT. So basically I hope 95% of the PT is slowly kneaded into the OT. Just gently eased in, really sly like. You start off with some Hayden appearances, you work in a couple NOOO's, and before you know it you're knuckle deep in Jar Jar's father.
I liked this post a lot. Made me chuckle. Thanks.

Believe me, I understand that. And of course I wish the UOT had that same luxury. But my point is still the same. Some people appear to have had it in their head that these Blu-rays would have all their problems with the 97/2004 special editions fixed and everyone would be happy like at the end of Jedi. This is mind boggling to me. We've known since 97 that the UOT unfortunately are not getting a proper release. And when I realized this, I saw the special editions as something different. I just don't see how people didn't see this type of thing coming.

Has anyone here read the Stephen King novel "Misery" (or seen the movie)? A crazed fan holds an author of a series of romance-novels (which she adores) hostage and forces him to burn the manuscript of his new book and write a sequel after her liking. It's the nightmare of every artist. An independent filmmaker (like Lucas) is not just independent from studio interference but from fan-demands as well! A version of Star Wars that would address all the fan demands against Lucas wishes would mean NOTHING to me!

I see it as a kind of cleansing-process right now. The large nerd-herd of conservative fans finds out right now that they actually don't get Star Wars and will abandon it. Simultanously a new generation will discover the movies on Blu-Ray and in theatres next year and fill that void. Star Wars is alive and more glorious than ever and it will prevail despite the endless bickering of painfully unimaginative naysayers! OVER AND OUT!

I don't think McCallum would figure into this. Imo, Lucas "the filmmaker" died somewhere between Raiders and Jedi, in the early 80's.

I may have missed it, but has anything been said about the audio quality in general, besides the "new issues" that have popped up in ANH?

All the fans are demanding is the version that Lucas originally shot.

A version that was once advertised, for sale and even embraced by Lucas himself.

Now it's out of print, with no plans of ever coming back.

It's not like the fans are demanding a whole bunch of radical changes, Lucas is making the changes, but the fans want the originals back.

Poor analogy with the Stephen King book...

Come on - one word - it's what - a few seconds of the movie - you can mute it if you want.

Star Wars on blu-ray - will totally rock!
It's not just the word, but the culmination of multiple stupid cgi effects the are evidently littered all over this new set.

Yet they also quickly add they want all the lightsabers fixed, the garbage mattes fixed, and tweaks here and there.

They don't want the versions that origanally were released. They simply want the changes they desire.

Hell, look at all the rage over the lightsaber on the Falcon being restored back to the almost pure white from '77.

I want the versions that I saw in the theater remastered in HD as do most fans.

I would classify those as mistakes/limitations of technology... not creative decisions

As much as I hate the "Nooo" scene, I have no problems with blinking Ewoks and such.

However, I am hearing people say that the lightsabers didn't get fixed? Really? That was my biggest complaint about the 2004 DVD set. In ANH, the alignment between Vader's saber's core and glow was usually off (and of course Luke's green saber). In Empire and Jedi, his saber was of course pink, and not red. That's all I really wanted fixed. Are you telling me that wasn't even done, even after Lucasfilm said they went back and fixed the lightsabers?

Edit: I mean, even the DVD Menu had Luke's saber color correct!

It's not that I disagree with you at all. But you understand the BDs were never going to be this nor were advertised as this, right?

I would tend to agree with that. Not to mention it not like he just changed some special effects or colors. He inserted new scenes, replaced actors and dialouge. He went way to far not to offer at least the UOT in a seperate set or something in HD.

Exactly right! The craziest thing is: They have gotten their outdated versions already on DVD but that slowed the hate-train not for one minute! What I don't get is why they won't let go of something they obviously don't like!?
