Just wondering which packaging everyone prefers in terms of the complete saga blu ray set,the old book type or the new one.

It was a easier marketing selling point to start calling the prequels by number within the tittles themselves because it was #1 #2 and #3. The new audience wouldn't feel obligated or even aware that they had to watch any of the other prior films first.

Different story with the sequel trilogy..

Neither. I won't buy it on Blu-ray until it gets a proper release.

Is there any new news on the unaltered original trilogy coming out or is it still just rumors?

Rumors and wishful thinking with a bit of delusion mixed in.

Count me among those who prefer the new packaging of this set, the case, as my shelving only allows for that size and I like all my titles to be displayed uniformly, not a fan of the gift sets and gimmicky packaging.

I like the new packaging myself. I always had trouble sliding the discs out of the old version. And as has been said, the new case gives more uniformity.

Anyone wondering about the new packaging, heres an unboxing video of the region ABC version. it'll be the same packaging in the states with the exception of the discs being plain without artwork exactly like the 2011 set.

Thanks. When I read 'blue discs', my mind went to the look Disney put out with their current Blu-ray releases and not the original US Star Wars BD release.

If any of the rumors that are going around pan out, I'd still say it'll be at least 6 months before we hear anything substantial or specific. And that's only going by the theory that they're planning something tying into the 40th anniversary.

That too but I think they want to it to be like the originals were first advertised:

It will have Episode in the opening crawl just like they did.

I saw the new complete saga packaging at FYE today. I do not like the amaray case...at all. Thank the Force that I got the original book style packaging back on release day!

What does EST stand for?

Fox doesn't control them, they distribute them. They will do as instructed by the rights holder. So if Lucasfilm wants to release, say, the original unaltered trilogy between now and 2020 then Fox will only be too happy to do so. Disney has nothing to do with it, apart from snaffling up those unguarded electronic rights as you say.

You'd think that the very existence of the rebranded Complete Saga set would be enough to convince people of the fact that Lucasfilm and Fox are still quite content with their relationship and that nothing has changed between them since the Disney takeover, but there we are.

So why don't they just do that then? Why won't Disney give us the release we want?

I don't like that Shaw was replaced as the Force Ghost at the end of Jedi

Because they want to sell you the current versions first. They know a lot of people will stop buying the 2011 versions if they release the originals. Stores will be stuck with unsold copies in their inventory that will eventually be returned to the studio.

Not all changes were bad. Palpatine in ESB for example.

I've commented on this already but I'll just say it again-- it makes sense that Disney isn't doing a restoration re-release right away. They're gonna make as much money on what they already have inherited before they give you everything you've ever wanted from Star Wars.

Think about it-- before Episode VII, they release the digital editions, and then repackage the "Complete Saga" Blu-Ray and sell that. And we all know those versions leave a lot to be desired (and I don't mean your preference on the alterations). The original films are the old outdated Lowry scans created for the DVD set, Episode I has a hefty dose of DNR, the extras are kinda paltry, etc.

But Disney knows that a much better release of Star Wars could be made, and are likely working on it now. Which is why they're making as much money off of these initial versions as they can now, because they know that these are going to be pretty much worthless and outdated once they unleash their brand new 4K remastered versions, possibly in some kind of ultimate set with a crap ton of bonus features.

Lucasfilm rinsed Star Wars so many times on video I've lost count. Just because they were consumed by the Daddy of all corporate movie entities doesn't mean they somehow became 'the little guy', they were just as rapacious when it came to pimping out their catalogue (they were very slow on the uptake when it came to DVD, true enough, but they soon made up for lost time by repackaging and re-releasing them over and over).

Point being, we're gonna get nothing but re-releases until Lucasfilm is good and ready to put the originals out there. The 40th anniversary of Star Wars is but 19 months away, it's too juicy an opportunity to miss.
