I do, indeed, and could stand to be more conscious of editing, while on my lunch break. Good thing I teach English.

Actually, some of the problems that the poster a few posts up is complaining about sound like bad mattes - which is an imperfection of the original analog optical process. The image quality problem he's talking about sounds like an imperfection due to opticals being several generations away from the original negative (although I haven't gone back to re-watch those scenes on Blu) even though those were the things that were supposedly fixed for the Blu release. Generally, the people who complain about such imperfections are also the people who complain about CGI processes and the fact that for Blu, Lucas went back and re-did lots of the original opticals. You can't have it both ways.

Let's not conflate updates made for technical reasons, which is perfectly reasonable as part a remastering or restoration process, and content changes, like adding objects to scenes, adding the "nooooooo" and adding Haden to the end of Episode VI.

If they ever do re-release the untouched originals, I guarantee you there will be a litany of new complaints. Let's not forget that even in 70mm, the originals were released with mono surround. If they released that way on Blu, many people would blow a gasket, even though they claim to want the films "untouched".

Name a single movie ever talked about on this (or any other site) that doesn't garner tons of criticisms and complaints, many from idiots who can't write a cohesive, grammatical sentence and wouldn't know art if the Sistine Chapel fell on their heads. Isn't the web wonderful?

Quit waxing wise with all these reasonable comments, ZoetMB. Sensible discussion does not like to be served here.

Solely, simple pure raw raging pathos of discontentment.

Mouse House will cater to everyone... eventually. Just do not expect it to be reasonably priced.

Best regards,
KvE

Conscious is an adjective
Consciousness is a noun

Since you addressed it as a thing, clearly using the adjective was right, but you're the alleged English teacher.

I thought the original 70mm had a 6-track sound mix? 35mm was stereo or mono depending on the venue.

70mm 6-track was 5 screen channels and 1 surround channel. 2 of the screen channels were low-frequency effects in the Dolby "Baby Boom" format.

Apocalypse Now was the first film to have split-surrounds, providing stereo surround. They accomplished this by placing high frequencies for the surrounds on tracks 2 and 4, the same tracks that contained the low-fq effects. A high pass filter split the signal. The low frequencies for the surrounds were recorded on track 6, the former mono surround channel. So the low frequencies for the surrounds were still mono, but it didn't matter because low frequencies have long wavelengths and you can't generally hear directionality.

But none of the original trilogy used split surround.

My wife watched Star Wars for the first time tonight. She was not a fan, actually fell asleep in the middle. Debating whether to make her watch Empire.

The Blus all have 6.1... Is that why? I don't remember but I think ep1 and the prequels also have 6.1... So I'm not so sure the decision for 6.1 has anything to do with the original 70mm prints

Haven't seen ROTJ on BD for a long time, but are you seeing similar looking things to this? -

If so those are garbage mattes which are apart of the optical effects, and they are probably more noticeable now on BD due to the 1080p resolution and more intense contrast vs the VHS.

Never saw any of the mistakes that are so obvious now back when the only way to see it was in the theater. After seeing it 8 times, I should have picked up on it. Never noticed it on VHS either. Damn you DVD and Blu-ray. Damn you all to hell!

It was what they had at the time, the prequels were 6.1 so they mixed these to match.
And no they are so not the 70mm mixes
