Now get to work.
The Prequels are Lucas' Folly. If I were to describe them it would be like Ed Wood (you, know... that Ed Wood who made Plan 9 From Outer-space) was given millions of dollars to write and direct Hollywood blockbusters.

Even the rough parts of ROTJ (the original cut, not the SE) are 10 times better than the teeth grinding lazy "acting" you get out of the cast of the Prequels and none of the original trilogy has the monotonous senatorial pablum or Jar Jar the walking stereotype.

Just finished watching all 6 movies. We so need the unaltered original trilogy. There's just too much really horrible stuff in ROTJ and ANH.

Going to see Force Awakens in 24 hours!!!!

Would you guys classify the SE versions of the OT and the prequels to be one set of films within a universe, while the unaltered orignal versions of the OT and The Force Awakens are in a world of their own?

Yes, I classify the SEs and PT into a universe where they don't exist.

Nothing from The Force Awakens mentions or calls back to the stains that are the prequels or the added garbage to the Special Editions. Hopefully that doesn't change with the other films. The comic books do link back to events in the prequels and I am fine with them leaving the crap there.

Get Harmy's de-specialized editions (the MKV versions) of ANH and Empire and then the latest tsMuxerGUI and ImageBurner and make your own Blu-ray's with lossless audio and HD-lite video. Return of the Jedi is being finalized and is in workprint form. The other two look impressive for how they had to be cobbled together from disparate sources from all over the world. True labors of love.

At least those will tied you over until someone at Lucasfilm gets their head out of their butt and approves full restorations of the OT.

Except for the fact that that is illegal

It's a grey area. It's considered fan fiction.

What Lucas has done is far worse: artistic rape.

The Berne Act states: films unreleased in the United States, including original versions of films altered and/or edited for release in the United States are not protected by copyright.

Meaning it's OK. And even if there was an official release and you still want the fan preservation, all you have to do is own the official version first.

Nah. To me it's SE OT, the PT, and upcoming Sequel Trilogy (I also add the TV movies and shows).

And you know since J.J. Abrams is behind a 4K restoration of Phantasm, anyone here wished he was part of a potential 4K restoration of the Original Theatrical Saga too?

There are no Prequels or Special Editions in my book. They're just not worth watching unless you're looking for a nice belly laugh. It's the OT and the new films for me.

I'll accept the Prequels because they complete the story. Thats all. The Special Editions of the Original Trilogy? No.

I think of the UOT by itself, no prequels. The backstory is as vague and imaginative as I've always thought of it pre-May 1999. The "Complete Saga" edition is all 6 movies and represents Lucas' complete vision of the saga.

With Force Awakens and the new movies it gets a bit trickier-- I'd probably actually say I think of it as a 3rd version of Star Wars, continuing off of no particular version of the OT-- the alterations may get pretty obtrusive and ridiculous, but don't really affect the story in any real sense.

And yes, I'd have to include the prequels there, too-- for better or worse, they are what they are, they're acknowledged as canon, and Disney isn't likely going to remake them or anything like that. I'm sure eventually we'll see new Star Wars movies that are based on things in prequels as well.

The fact that Lucasfilm hasn't lifted a finger despite being obviously aware of OT.com, Harmy, and the Despecialized Edition for years is pretty telling.

I generally agree but would love Ewan McGregor in an Obi-Wan movie.

Agreed. Would MUCH rather have that than a young Han Solo movie with an actor other than Harrison Ford.

And imagine Ewan as Obi Wan under the hand of a good director... It'd be truly amazing I think.

Nonsense. Even if your "Berne Act" claim were true and not a load of BS repeated ad nauseam by uninformed people trying to justify copyright infringement, the OT has been released in the United States many, many times - both theatrically and on multiple home video formats.

Lucasfilm has generally maintained a live and let live philosophy in regards to fan films, as long as no money was exchanging hands, and it wouldn't be a stretch to think they've lumped all of the altered versions into that same bin.

That doesn't mean they're powerless to enforce their claim, should they decide to. I'd imagine we'll see quite a clampdown on those sites if and when they decide to officially release a BD set of the unaltered trilogy.

You sound like a lawyer... Harmy and his crew have done the cinema world a huge service. You should be thanking him, not debating the finer legal points.

Sadly, it's all too possible that this is the closest the true fans will ever get to the OT in some form of HD, even if it is only 720p.

Spielberg needs to go to his flanneled friend and smack some sense into him. Even the Library of Congress wants the OT fully preserved for the archives.
