You won't get an official public statement on the matter. What we got is enough to know that George is still the one who gets to decide what versions are released. Both Pablo Hidalgo and Kathleen Kennedy have spoken that nobody touches Lucas's movies but Lucas himself.

But if people want to continue to expect for a release that's not going to happen, it's their choice.

They're the same masters that are on the UHDs.
Oh, are you saying the Disney Blu-ray transfers of 4-6 are unmolested by nasty DNR?
Can you still see the boxes around the ships?

What I find so odd about George Lucas is that he is really inconsistent when it comes to quality.
We all know he was extremely frustrated with the limitations of what he could put on the screen with 4-6, yet he is fine with using SD material of VFX shots on BD transfers, and in UHD!!!?? How would any control freak be fine with that?
If I were George, I would have those re-rendered, the SE shots in the OT, and the extended scenes in TPM, and lay off the DNR button.
How hard is that?
Perhaps, it was just a final FU to all the nasty Star Wars "fans"?

I only wish we could have a great transfer of TPM. I'd be perfectly fine with the theatrical cut, if he can't be bothered to have those shots re-rendered, but most importantly make it filmic. Or at least do it tastefully, so it matches AOTC a little better, but a monkey could have done the same DNR mastering here IMHO.

Nah, they have quite a bit of DNR. Color grading is muted too. Just look at capsaholic.

No. The DNR is there on the BDs as well. They're still better than the Fox BDs though.

Most, if not all of the FX shots have been recomposited and the matte boxes cleaned up.

Yeah it's a shame. If the DNR and EE wasn't there, they'd look perfect imo.

From what I can gather, actual work started at or near the start of 2019.

IMO, you are not going to top the "4K" Series fan productions when it comes to the OTC, 77 and 83 are wonderful and I have no reason to doubt 80 will be any different. I preferred the grained versions myself.

If you are waiting for Disney to release OTC, even after acquiring Star Wars from Fox, don't hold your breath.

So you essentially paid full price for 7/10ths of a package and the only thing you can't deliver is the one thing every fan wants. Well played.

To be fair that quote wasn’t specifically in regards to the OUT. The guy who did that interview asked a very vague question about the changes that were made and she was basically confirming that any further changes (should any be made) would not be her choice. Doesn’t exactly rule out that a future set would include the OUT but at the same time doesn’t exactly increase the odds either.

Nonetheless, the point is exactly the same. Lucas has the final word.

And Lucas has made up his mind on the issue many years ago. He stands by the version that better reflects his intent.

When did I say otherwise?? My point is countless people refer to the KK interview as proof the OUT is never being released again when there’s basically no mention of the OUT in the interview. It just confirms there’s no plans to further alter the films. Providing the OUT along with Lucas’ “intended” versions is not “altering” the films. And before I get slammed I have zero hope for a OUT release in any capacity. That forever ended for me with the release of the Skywalker Saga set.

Yes, it is. It's altering the movies to a previous state that the creator doesn't want. To pretend that it's unrelated to the theatrical versions is missing the point entirely.

It is not altering them. Altering them means to change from previous state. The originals are there. They don't need to fix or alter the new ones to make the old ones .

Well if the creator didn't want them, why did he release them?
The fact is that George retconned his a** into a corner and in order to get out of it, he erased the original 3 films that PAID for his entire life.

His film? Sure, but why go out of your way to wizz all over the fans who made your a** rich and famous? Explain that. No it isn't artistic differences. It's called being a d*ck.
I'd wager 90% of fans who started watching AT TPM will give zero f's about the OT, and rightfully so. More power to them.

It does nothing to Lucas's "grand vision" if the OTC is out there because most OTC fans give zero f's about any of the crap that came out after it and the post Jedi fans don't care because arguably the greatest
[Show spoiler] swerve/parental reveal in film history
has already been erased by stupid spoiler earlier in Empire, thanks to George's tinkering.. The only reasoning I can come up with for him doing it is he is doing it to F with people. Period.

Well George, You could reverse course, green light a 4K restored otr and I wouldn't give you another dime.I have 4K77 and 4K83, when 4K80 comes along, I will have the ones that I want. You can take your vision and shove it up Jabba's exhaust port.

The only correct playback for virgins:
1} Star Wars
2} Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
3} Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi

F' You George for trying to take this away from generations of film goers:
[Show spoiler]https://youtu.be/xKmZGu2ivO0?t=95

Mind. Blown. Just like everyone else in the theaters that year.
It cannot be understated how huge this was in 1980/1981.

The ultimate irony of the whole situation is that George Lucas pioneered the very kind of revisionism he tried to warn people about in front of congress in the 80s. The kind that defaces our cultural heritage. I don't think anyone had even attempted a level of revisionism on that high a magnitude until Lucas himself exercised it on his own work.

Even the hand full of black and white films that were colorized in the 80s were still made readily available in their original versions at the same time.

While I agree that colorization was bad, this is something different.
This is re-writing the bible to change it to fit the authors desire.
No I don't think that is an over blown comparison.

That's what I'm saying. George Lucas was prophesying a level of revisionism that was unheard of at that time until he himself became the first one to actually do it. He spoke of revisionist versions of films permanently replacing the original for all time and acting as if no other version exists, which is exactly what he has done but since it's his own work he feels it is ok.

It used to really upset me that I can't get the original theatrical versions of the OT on Blu-ray unless I acquire a "fan edit". It's still annoying, but it doesn't bother me like it used to. I grew up watching (over and over) the OT in theaters, on VHS, and on TV; those memories can't be changed by anyone. Sure, they will fade over time. At that point I'll probably have more important things than Star Wars to deal with.

I was able to buy The Complete Saga Blu-ray set on eBay for $15. It was used but it's in immaculate shape. The only two changes that really irritate me are the Jabba scene in A New Hope (bad CGI, and Han's dialogue is almost the same as what he said to Greedo) and the new musical number at Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi. That's 2 brief scenes out of 3 movies. I can live with that.
