Too bad though.

I will be watching Episode II on BD tomorrow morning.
I think 4 looks better than 5 and 6.

Same. The processing is heavier on 5 & 6.

Forget about an official release of the OOT.

Even if it did happen, people still wouldn’t be satisfied with it.

4K77 - 4K80 - 4K83, is probably the best it’ll get. Faithful colour grading and more audio options for viewers to enjoy.

I like both versions but I always found it odd how they were changed to be more funny.
One thing I didn't understand is when Episode III came out on Blu-ray, with since George altering the movies for the format, why the Super Battle Droids weren't given the deeper voices from TCW?

I disagree. It was thanks to the 3D release that the movie got a restoration to begin with.

In the end, the improvements far outweight the flaws.

Think they're about third of the way, last time I saw any kind of update. The prints they have need way more work than 4K77 & 4K83.

Yeah, no. I believe it would have to be restored for a proper BD release anyway, so the 3D job really botched that up.

On a different note though: Are the Disney BDs any better than the original BD release? Better compression, etc.? Or are those the DNR'd editions?

Very different color timing. Empire is DNR'd to death. Audio...personally, I prefer the more aggressive Fox discs, but the Atmos tracks are supposedly very good. I only have 5.2, so I can't comment.

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that if it ever does happen, it won’t while Lucas is still alive.

Just like it happened with the OT, the previous 2K master (with digital Yoda and without the magenta push) was most likely going to be used.

TPM, just like the OT, were only worked on because of the 3D release.

4-6 look better, 1 does as well. 2 and 3 look identical.

Audio is 50/50 for the PT, better for the OT imo.

They're the same masters that are on the UHDs.

Thank you.

I thought it was pretty much universally agreed upon that Ep. III got a pretty nice upgrade.

5-6 have too much DNR, so I won't bother.

It's the UHD that's a solid upgrade. The BD looks the same as the Fox one.

The same applies to 2.

1 is interesting though. The Disney BD has the same transfer as the Fox one, but stuff like colour, contrast, brightness etc. are a bit different (better imo).

Then you have the UHDs, which also use the same transfers, but the HDR grades make them look noticeably different.

2 in particular doesn't look as tealed up.

If the reason Disney hasn’t released the unaltered OT is due to a gentlemen’s agreement with Lucas, what’s the worst that could happen if they just released it? Having to deal with Lucas making tweets calling them liars?

If Lucas expected Disney to use his ST treatments and didn’t really care that he was upset that they ignored them, why would Disney care if Lucas would be mad if they released the unaltered OT as long as it was legal to do so?

Which version of 4K77 do you have? For the NO-DNR version there’s 1.0 and 1.4. Not sure if there’s a 1.2 and 1.3. Anyway, 1.4 was re-graded by a member of the original trilogy forum and I believe TN1 approves it.

Also, for the DNR version of 4K83 there’s 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3. 1.1 has a moderate amount of DNR, 1.2 has heavy DNR, and 1.3 has very light DNR.

It's not a "gentlemen's agreement". The ST treatments were a plan, not an actual work. For someone who spent so many years fighting to protect himself and his works from studio interference, it stands to reason that Lucas also protected himself in that regard when he sold the company.

If Disney could release the theatrical versions, they would have done so already. People from the company already revealed that it's not up to them, it's up to Lucas.

I haven’t heard any official confirmation on this though. The closest was when I hit up Pablo Hidalgo on Twitter and he replied “There’s one very noteworthy person who doesn’t want them released. Shouldn’t be too hard to guess who that is.”
