With MVC encoding, they reduce the digital file size quite a bit, using the 2D version, with the 3D overlapped somehow. More data, but not as bad as if they had 2 separate versions. Not sure how theaters play it, so it might be bulky as you suggest for file size.

I hope Hobbit 3D releases a new trailer soon. The first one they keep showing doesn't have many action moments at all, but strong 3D.
