Futurama movie - a disappointment - Blu-ray Forum

I know it's not a Blu-ray movie, but many people on this site were looking forward to it anyway. I watched it last night and I was pretty disappointed. I own all four of the seasons and I love them. I was very angry when the show was cancelled and when I heard about the 4 movies coming out, I was psyched. However, "Bender's Big Score" is very disappointing. It is 89 minutes long but it didn't even make me laugh half as much as a standard 20 minute episode. I highly recommend you guys rent it first. I am as big a Futurama fan as they come and, after watching this movie, I have no desire to see it agian (I have seen the first 4 seasons countless times).

On the other side of things, in the special features there is a full length episode (20 min) of "Everybody Loves Hypnotoad" and it is hilarious.

not 'was', but rather 'is'. Direct to video, so it only just came out.

Man, I love this show, and had high hopes for it as well. I really thought it would've been great after seeing was Matt Groening did with the Simpsons Movie. I'm going to rent this as soon as I get back home from Thanksgiving Vacation. They still have 3 to redeem themselves though.

Ya, I think they just need to get back into the swing of doing it. And don't get me wrong, the movie has a few laughs, it just paled in comparison to most, if not all, the original episodes.

no way better than 99% of these new episodes it got back to simpsons roots .... without some crazy ending where they end up in outter space or something

I think towards the end of the show it got like weird where as the 1-(some of 3) were really great episodes ... oh well!

well its one person saying it was bad you guys. form your own opinion. I'm still buying it. the trailer alone makes it worth the money

For the record I enjoyed it about as much as the Simpsons movie. Both cases are writers who are used to writing for 22 min essentially doing 4 episodes in a row, and the inexperience on the pacing shows

Both were enjoyable though

Simpsons movie blew this away IMHO. But i still liked this overall, just the first half was painful to watch.

if its on the same level as the simpsons movie, then I won't be dissapointed.

I'm sorry, Devil, but I must heartily disagree with you.

I drove to Best Buy as soon as I got out of class today and picked it up. Popped it in the moment I got home and watched it non-stop. I thought it was one of the funniest things I've ever watched. Seeing all the old crew back in action doing exactly what they had been doing when we last saw them was unforgettable.

The opening bashes at Fox are brilliant and the story is extremely well handled all the way around. Sure, you might get a bit confused with all the you-know-who's running around in the past, but they certainly followed their motto of not doing any time travel story without making sure they tie up all the loose ends when it's over. And how can you not laugh every second that Al Gore is on screen. This actually makes me glad that he's not the president because he wouldn't be able to do stuff like this.

Maybe it's because I haven't had any new stories from the Planet Express Crew in 3 years, but I loved every second of this "full-length epic." And just waiting to see all the characters that they bring back just for this one movie is half the fun.

In my opinion, if you were a fan of the show, go out and buy this now. If you didn't watch the show, go buy the DVD's of the show and then buy this movie. You will almost certainly enjoy it.

I agree with PS3Maniac it is very good IMO, I picked it up today and was supposed to watch it with some friends tonight but couldnt wait i watched it immediatly, i'm not saying I laughed out loud through the whole thing or that there aren't other futurama episodes that are better, but this is a very solid film with a lot of great jokes, especially metajokes for fans of the series.

one more thing if anyone else has watched the commentary David Cohen talks about the movie being in high def from the way he words it sounds like he means a home release not a tv showing. He even talks about extra work they had to do this time to make it high def and widescreen. Sounds like they plan on releasing it in high def but I have yet to see anything official.
