No info yet. Last we heard the master copy was destroyed in a fire, and had to be totally redone. May take some time, but I too am hoping sometime early this year

I sure would love to see this one receive the Criterion Director's Cut treatment. In full 1080p, High Def sound glory....can you imagine?

Not entirely true. It seems that I read right here on Blu-ray.com that Armageddon IS going to be released on BD this year. I am sure there were other mint condition prints from which a BD master could be made (possibly using Michael Bay's PERSONAL print which he keeps in a vault in the basement of his California mansion!).

In addition, that fire that reportedly destroyed the Armageddon master occurred at Universal. Armageddon is a Touchtone Pictures release. Perhaps the TRUE master was stored here:

Walt Disney / Touchstone Pictures
500 S Buena Vista St
Burbank, California 91521

If I find the link that indicated a 2009 release of Armageddon on BD I will update this post.

UPDATE:

Here is the link that indicates Armageddon for 2009 (source Digital Bits)

Rumor Updates on Star Trek and New Transformers Release
Posted November 11, 2008 09:53 AM by Josh Dreuth

Our friend Bill Hunt has a few updates on upcoming 2009 Blu-ray releases from studios, as well as a couple new titles coming to fans soon. As previously rumored, Paramount will be bringing the first six Star Trek theatrical films to Blu-ray next year around the time of the next Star Trek film release, which is due to hit theaters in May.

Paramount is also planing to release 'Transformers: Extended Edition' timed with the theatrical release of the second Transformers film.

Disney is planning to release 'Pretty Woman' in February, followed by 'Sin City' sometime there after. There is also talk that 'Armageddon' will see release sometime during the Spring as well.

And finally, astute readers will have noticed that Warner Japan has announced their first four Batman films for Blu-ray release. Warner has yet to confirm a US release, but sources say that they'll be in the US sometime in the Spring.

Paramount
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Transformers: Extended Edition

Walt Disney
Pretty Woman (February)
Sin City
Armageddon

Warner Brothers
Batman
Batman Returns
Batman and Robin
Batman Forever

If I remember right Michael Bay (and/or Disney) said it was being worked on.

I was watching this on Starz HD... looked terrible! They zoomed in and cropped off the sides. I can't wait for the Blu-ray as this has never had an anamorphic release. Plus the sound would be pretty good (at least I hope so). It's one of my all time favorite popcorn movies.

This is a touchstone production, are they distributed by disney. Does that mean we'll be seeing a DTS-MA audio codec for Armageddon. Oh my, what a glorious movie this will be if that's the case.

I have an oldray DVD released by Criterion. It was anamorphic (2:35 aspect ratio). It is excellent, but not BD quality.

It wouldn't matter if it was DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD or PCM... It's all lossless and matches the uncompressed master anyway...

The Criterion release was actually non-anamorphic. They did do an anamorphic version of The Rock though, but I think Armageddon was done in the period where they weren't sure if anamorphic added artifacts or not.

You are correct (my bad). My Criterion version is simply widescreen. I am eager to obtain Armageddon on Blu-ray.

True dat.
In fact the DVDs releases internationally outside the USA by Buena Vista were anamorphic and struck from a different master than the USA domestic version. I don't know if that master is usable for an HD release, but there is nothing stopping the powers that be from creating a new master.

This would be awesome on blu-ray, and I would buy it for sure. My DVD is non-anamorphic.
