Then you really have never dealt w/ M$. BTW which small company are you buying your gaming console from?

Ha! I worked as a finance manager at GE for years. You think we gave a flip about you the consumer? We didn't save lives... we saved lives at an extreme profit. Big difference. An Open MRI unit is a wonderful thing until you see the price tag and understand how that impacts the ever rising cost of medical care. You think we got into security to keep you safe or energy to keep you warm? GE dove headlong into security after 9/11. Sure you're no less safe than before, but now you're willing to pay a lot more for it.

Actually so does everyone. There are many fomat wars and many more companies... almost everyone is always losing and only a handful are winning. Sony redefined portable music w/ the Walkman and gaming w/ PSx... that isn't bad on its one. If this were baseball, their batting average would be just fine - you've bought into the bogus perception hook, line & sinker. Microsoft is one of the world's biggest companies and they lose most of their battles... Zune never even got off the ground; X-Box has never been dominant in any wave so far; HD downloads are a joke... the list goes on.

For those too young to remember, during the height of the cold war, toshiba told radially symetrical milling technology to the soviet block. This technology was classified either Secret or Top Secret, and those bastards sold it to the soviets! And yet, NO ONE went to jail, and they are still allowed to sell their products in the United States!

As for microsoft, they ADMITTED to writing their operating system so your computer would crash if you had the temerity to run Lotus123.

I don't have anything on Paramount, but as for the other two, I think evil and greedy about sum it up, and it summed it up LONG before BD vs. HD-DVD

Where does all this stem from?
I'll tell you why I hate Sony. I bought a Sony HDR-SR1 camcorder, and a Sony BWU-100A blu-ray disk writer. The software that comes with the disk burner won't read the output files from the camcorder, and Sony belligerently refuses to do anything about it. I've called them, begged, yelled, etc., all to no avail. They simply say they're not going to do this, because its a proprietary format. Translation: I've spent $2000 for nothing, because the camcorder fills up and I can't use it any more, and the blu-ray disk writer is useless to me unless I can use it to produce disks of the video footage I've made with the camcorder.

Don't buy the HDR-SR1!!! Its completely useless. Oh, and if you copy the files from it to your computer hard drive for storage, and then try to copy them back to the camcorder, it won't let you, unless the files are less than 2 gigabytes, which corresponds to about 15 minutes of footage. So if you video tape a meeting for an hour, you have to break up that file on your PC into 15-minute chunks, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that this literally takes all day! Oh, and did I mention that the Cyberlink software installs .NET 1.2 on your machine, and completely screws things up? I put it on my computer at work, and nothing else worked any more. Outlook didn't work, Visual Studio didn't work, etc.

I'll NEVER buy from Sony ever again! It would be one thing if this was an over site that they were willing to address, but to just sit there with arms folded telling me I'm on my own, that's inexcusable.

Roxio's software doesn't work with the *.m2ts files either (despite what they claim - they said their trial version doesn't work with it, but the non-trial version of Easy Media Creator 9 does). Well, it doesn't! You get an "Error building graph" message, and I get that both on my old computer at home, and on my brand new out of the box HP computer at work with top-of-the line everything on it (disk space, memory, video card, etc). Elecard software managed to convert it to an mpeg file, but the quality was poor. Then I managed to convert it to some other format where the video looked pretty good, but there was no sound. Then I got fairly good looking video & the sound at least was there, but when the person in the video moved, it was clear that only every few frames were actually being saved by the Elecard software. A lot of these software packages are like 1/2 a gig, which takes a long time to download and install one version after another after another. The Cyberlink people act like they're on drugs. They can't speak English, they have me download the wrong versions of stuff, they give me the wrong CD keys, etc., etc., etc. I have 22 emails from them! And its not that I'm some computer illiterate moron; I have a BS on Physics, and an MS in Computer Science!

Its just been a nightmare from day one!

I use to hate Sony, why? because they killed the Dreamcast. I was never fond of PSX and PS2. I had always thought Saturn & Dreamcast was better. I also never liked any of their products except for their trinitrons back then. I thought their receivers and speaker sets were complicated and ugly. Most of my brothers buy nothing but Sony products. I wanted to give other brands a chance. This generation, I've bought nothing but Sony products. LCD (I've tried out Sharp, Mitsubishi & Panasonic), Playstation 3 and PSP which I'm extremely satisfied with the quality and design. I no longer have a grudge against Sony, I luv a lot of their products and I give 'em big kudos for taking a chance on releasing the PS3 going as far as creating the Cell processor and Blu-ray player which result in one of the most expensive console ever sold, so gamers can have a better experience in gaming and HD.

lylez - Sorry to that hear Sony didn't take care of you. The last time I had to contact Sony was about fixing my stereo system boom box, brought it to one their service center, got it fixed, everything was fine.

People hate Sony because they know BD is better and the majority are 360 owners. Actually I can afford a PS3, I just haven't come up with a compelling reason to part with my money for it yet. Yes, I bought the HD DVD for the 360. I'm out $200 for it. If HD DVD loses and goes away, then I figure I'm out $200 plus the cost of a few discs I bought for it. What are YOU out if BD loses?

If and when BD wins, I'll probably buy a PS3. Until then, I haven't put much money at risk and I don't mind waiting it out. As to BD being better. How are you enjoying the picture-in-picture blue screen commentary on 300 in Blu-Ray? Oh wait, that's right..you're not. Then there's the supposed higher picture quality that some people claim should be there, but no one seems to be able to demonstrate that in side by side comparisons.

This isn't about what format is better. This is all about making your choice and defending it to the bitter end. You chose Blu-Ray, good for you. Your vote has been recorded in the next-gen format war. But this Blu-Ray jihad is just hilarious to read. Keep it up guys. You put a smile on my face every day.

Randy
BIASED OPINIONS are what i am trying to get at, although I did say many can only afford an xbox 360, this is not what i intended to, and i apologize if anyone is offended by the remark. However, this is my question to you, why do you think HDDVD have people supporting it? Is it because it is a better format? or is it because A CHEAPER FORMAT THAN BD? the majority of HDDVD would argue with you saying they only support hddvd because of its price. I mean even Universal's Ken Gaffeo, or graffeo I don't even know his last name. argues that if hddvd loses the format war, then it wouldn't be a big major loss to its supporters because it was CHEAP, and they could use it to upconverts their films. "by they can they use BD when it is the only format available after the war is over." honestly, when people say "I HATE SONY" it is no different when some of them say I agree with micheal moore and say "I hate Bush" or "I hate republicans." oh and by the way I am a fan of micheal moore, because he is although biased, he gives a good example of being able to speak his mind freely. knowing that some will disagree and some will agree with him. The keyword in this topic is BIASED OPINIONS. SINCE SPEAKING OF BIASED OPINIONS ARE YOU AN HDDVD FANBOY? because you sound like one and YOU DON'T BELONG HERE SO GO WHINE AND CRY SOMEWHERE ELSE....OH AND BY THE WAY GO JIHAD SOMEWHERE ELSE LIKE AT AVS FORUMS.

Well my distate for Sony started with my 32" Vega XBR that after only 6 months of ownership lost the tube then within that same year the tuner went in it. By the time I got rid of it I had the tuner replaced 3 times and teh tube was starting to deteriorate again. Then on to the DVD oplayers I had from them 2 lost drive motors and then the laser in the 3rd one. So needless to say I have switched brands. I never had these issues with the old 27" Mits that Ihad owned previos to the vega. My neighbour had an XBR2 60" and in 1 month the optical board went in it. So now I have a 56" Samsung in the livingroom that has been flawless.

Democracy means "power to the people", it has become "power to the majority". Thus, if 35% respect Micrapsoft, 34% don't care and 31% love Sony, the 35% will be considered the norm, and many will just follow, not enven thiking of the reasons if any.
PC is often associated with Microsoft, and as it's majoritary, as trusty hardware. So Sony becomes an invader from Japan, and the XBOX360 more reliable than the PS3 ... (and the Wii, not a direct opponent to Microsoft, becomes a nice gimmick everyone wants).
Conclusion : people follow a leader and hate the loser.

Microsoft also "tweaked" Windows 3.1 so it would not run on DR DOS, only MS DOS. There are many examples but not all are Microsoft. Lots of companies do it. It's done largely for market share and bragging rights.

The only thing I like about Sony is Playstation and Blu-Ray.
Sony is overpriced in just about everything they sell, which does not mean they are the better product. And I hate how people automatically think or want Sony when they are shopping around for certain consumer products such as LCD's or laptops.

With all due respect though, Sony has done a good job over the past few decades in mesmerizing (advertising) the masses that their products are the best.

Sony as a business have the right to be sony all the way. at the same time their products are overpricey, but isn't MS products over pricy too. what about apple. tell me one electronic buisness developer who isn't overpricy, and please don't say toshiba isn't too. I don't experiance with laptops or computers since i have been an apple geek since the beginning. but their TVs, DVDs, and other products are worth owning, since they are yes pricey, but they deliver what you paid for it. I bought a sony Dream system about 3 years ago, and believe me, It works great, and worth every penny i spent on it.

Sony is never overpriced, if u find it's expensive then buy the cheap ones made in Thailand, not those top of line real SONY made in Japan! and whatever high end products SONY put such like their XBR BRavia LCD and Top of line VAios like the new TZ, and the old X505, is for sure the best at the time!!!!!

and u r rite on SONY's ads, they are very good and only shows how innoviated the company is, and if u think about company slogan, who is cooler? b4 1998 the slogan is "It's a SONY", dont need to tell u how good or even wat it is, just say It's a SONY which means better than the rest!!! and now it is "like.no.other", my god, how brilliant is that!!!! SONY is the No1 no question about that, ppl hate No1 cuz they can't be, they jealous and they can't afford, AGAINA> then cannot afford the top of line SONY, and compalin about cheap stuff they bought!!!!! SAD!!!!
