They won't get the best incentives that the other CE members enjoy though. Why should they, they costs them all allot of money with their little stunt.

I don't think they've made a profit yet, between selling players at a loss and the $150 million payout to Paramount/Dreamworks. I think the remaining lifespan of HD-DVD depends on just how much more they're willing to lose before throwing in the towel.

I think, I have a new Add for Paramount:

Now! Titanic on HD-DVD - 5 Dics-edition

And Blu-ray will soon get the new BD100

Seriously,

No one can really deny that 30Gb is enough.

And,.. 51GB is Way better then 50. That extra GB makes ALL the difference unless there's a compatability problem in which case actually 30GB is the perfect amount of space.

Yeah,.. ok,.. gotcha.

Hold on, folks. Toshiba's view of the universe is seriously skewed, and I'll tell you why.

They get the largest chunk of DVD royalties. That's a lot of pennies that add up awfully quick. For them, even a stalemate is a win; forcing both formats into permanent niche status and leaving DVD as the victor is a "win" to Toshiba since it lets them continue to milk DVD for effortless profits that much longer.

As such, I don't expect them to give up until and unless Blu-ray consistently controls 90% of the market and shows the potential to unseat DVD.

In a nutshell its UNCOMPRESSED audio.
Meaning you have the same master quality the studio has.

Whether they give up is irrelevant; The retailers will give up on them.

this is true... look at UMDs... not very many people buy them, they still exist only becuase it's a niche market. until retailers completely abandon them, they will still be around.

This is really a joke. HD DVD should be put to sleep, sooner rather then later.
HD DVD will not lay down and die until POSSIBLY December 2008 - period. A contract is a contract unless,

A. Contract clauses let them out for financial reasons
B: They are allowed to buy out of the contract.

Paramount did do something nice and let Dreamworks put their name on the movies they produce. Translation: Future Dreamworks movies can show up on blu-ray. At least, this is what we hear and hope.

Yes, the space issue sucks. Titanic on HD DVD could very well be a two disc set like the DVD version of "The 10 Commandments." Or, they are waiting for the triple layer 51GB DUD.

Unless I am mistaken, BD25 is a 2 hour medium akin to a 2 hour DVD in SP mode. XP mode is one hour. In my humble opinion, a BD25 should not hold a movie longer than 90 minutes. That should leave enough space for better audio.

BD50 is the here and now, and BD100 is the future. Heck, I would settle for BD75.

About Toshiba's 51gig disc - all reports so far indicate that there may be a very big compatibility problem with ALL HD players currently on the market (and in people's homes) being unable to play the 51gig discs - seems that player's lens needs to be replaced. On the other hand, Hitachi (I believe) is putting the finishing touches on a 100gig BluRay disc. This would only require a simple firmware upgrade to existing players. I wonder if all the Toshiba "repairs" will be free? Will Toshiba supply owners with a shipping carton, pay the freight both ways etc? I doubt it. If I were an HD Toshiba owner and then Paramount and Universal came out with "improved" HD discs that I couldn't play, I'd be pisssed as hell.

So much for "The Look and SOUND of Perfect".

Paramount pretty much shot that one down.

Toshiba already pissed away 150 million at Paramount. What is a couple more million to fix these things and remain kissy faced with Microsoft? They give no indication of dropping the gauntlet. As long as SOMEONE supports the format they will continue this onslaught.
