Default I need help setting up my new Blu-ray player with my old DVD player. Help!

Current Home Theater setup:
Receiver<--coaxial audio cable-->DVD player<--cheap audio cables + component video cables-->HDTV

What kind of wiring do I need to also add a Blu-ray player? Is the following correct:

Receiver<--coaxial cable-->DVD player<--cheap audio cables(I only use my receiver for DVDs) + component video cables-->HDTV
+
Receiver<--HDMI cable-->Blu-ray player<--HDMI cable-->HDTV

Can I have a receiver taking in a coaxial cable(or optical cable) and a HDMI cable at the same time?

since models and components vary, it would help to post model number of each unit.

Sony Bravia KDL-37M3000 HDTV
Malata DVD player (no HDMI on this machine, just coaxial and optical)
Sherwood 5004 multi-region Blu-Ray player
Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar receiver

1. Is that the normal set-up, such that I don't get any complications with audio when I switch back from using my DVD player or my blu-ray player? Even with cables plugged into the two audio settings (HDMI for blu-ray player and coaxial for DVD player), is it expected that the receiver will know automatically which one to use and not get thown off?

2. With my blu-ray setup as shown above, can't I then just remove the cheap audio cables that run between the TV and the receiver since I had added an HDMI cable between the TV and the receiver?

I feel like I ran out of output/input holes, I can't hook up my DVD player to the receiver, and I don't know if I can use my headphones for the Blu-ray player. I'm so confused now that I added a blu-ray player to my home theater. I don't know if I need a splitter or if I can hook up everything successfully without a splitter. I'm not sure if I'm using the right combination. Here's what my home theater has:

HDTV (only up to 1080i): 2 HDMI, 2 component, 1 coaxial

DVD Player: 1 component, 1 coaxial, 1 optical

Blu-Ray Player: 1 HDMI, 1 component, 1 coaxial

Receiver: 1 HDMI (DVD), 1 HDMI (Blu-Ray), 1 coaxial, 1 optical (TV), 1 optical (DVD)

Wireless DD 5.1/DTS headphones: 1 optical (digital in), 1 optical (digital out)

HD Cable box: 1 HDMI, 1 Component, 1 yellow/red audio

I only want to use my receiver for my DVD player and for my Blu-ray player (For tv watching, I just use the tv speakers).

I only want to use my headphones for my DVD player and for my Blu-ray player (For tv watching, I don't use headphones).

This is how my current set up is right now and I don't know how to integrate my DVD player and my headphones into the mix:

My HDTV has one HDMI cable going to the Cable box and the other HDMI cable going to the Blu-ray player.
My Blu-ray player is using a coaxial cable to the Receiver.
My DVD player has component cables going to the HDTV, but my DVD player is disconnected now because how can I attach it to my Receiver if I'm already using the one coaxial for my Blu-ray player?
Concerning headphones that only have optical, can I even use these headphones with my Blu-ray player (for example, can I attach the headphones to the Receiver to listen to Blu-ray audio?)

I certainly don't need the HDMI for my cable tv since I'm only capable of watching 1080i. I could just use component video and red/white audio cables for my HD-tv watching. But even if I did that to free up one HDMI hole on my tv, I still don't know if that would help.

Are there any technological wizes that can help me out? I'm lost!

I can help with the DVD/BDP question. I'm not familiar with wireless headphones.

Cable box: HDMI from box to TV for video & audio
DVD Player: Component video to AVR / Coax audio to sound bar
BDP: HDMI to sound bar for video & audio
TV: HDMI out from sound bar to the TV

Simply use the input select button on the theater system or the remote to select the audiuo jack being used for the DVD player or the Blu-ray player.

Your current wiring, using HDMI from the BDP to the TV for video, will also work. You can use optical instead of coax for audio from the DVD player.

I don't see it explained so will ask. Why do you still need the DVD player? The blu-ray will play your DVDs just fine.

Well, it would be nice to just use a blu-ray player, but so far my new Sherwood Blu-ray player makes annoying chirping sounds when I play DVDs on it. Maybe an hour into the film, the chirping goes away. So I would be happy playing my DVDs on my dvd player and playing my Blu-rays on my blu-ray player...

Then get a new Blu-ray player and trash the DVD player. I also agree that you don't need a DVD player if you've got a healthy Blu-ray player. More crap to hook up and more complications. It's kinda like having a PS1 and a PS2. The PS2 makes the PS1 completely useless. Blu-ray players do the same to DVDs as they play everything a DVD player can play.

The OP has asked for help wiring his equipment together. Perhaps you might help with that instead of telling him to spend money on new equipment.

I think I just may have to buy new headphones. My wireless headphones are basically like a mini-receiver (since it's interpretting DD 5.1 or DTS) - I don't think I can attach my wireless headphones to my soundbar receiver. Wouldn't that be the same as attaching a receiver to another receiver?

So if I buy new headphones to listen to DVDs or Blu-rays, according to your home theater set-up recommendation as I have drawn below, where would I attach new headphones to (if they were regular headphones - ignore the reference to my current headphones being coaxial outputs)? If I plug in regular headphones into the TV headphone hole, then I can listen to my dvd player or my blu-ray? But since the Blu-ray player is only attached to the Receiver, then if I plug in the headphones to the TV, then the receiver has to always be on for the headphones to work? I'm confused - would I be headphoning the audio coming from the receiver or the audio coming from the tv speakers? And if it's from the tv speakers, wouldn't there be no audio? According to your set-up, the only audio that I can get when watching DVD or Blu would be from the receiver, and not from the TV speakers? Correct me if i'm wrong...

Sorry for the confusion, I forgot to say that my DVD player is a multi-region DVD player - that's why I would still like to use my DVD player.

You'd plug the headphones into a headphone jack on whatever piece of equipment has the audio you want to hear. If all audio is going through the soundbar and if it has a headphone jack, you could plug them in there. Or, you could plug them directly into the BD and DVD players if they have headphone jacks.

the only headphone jack is on my TV. So if i plug headphones into the tv and I want to watch Blu-ray, am I going to hear audio or not? (remember per your set-up that the receiver is in the middle of the tv and blu-ray player) So does that mean the blu-ray player is going to pass the sound through the receiver to the tv and out through the headphones?

If you plug it into the TV then you will hear whatever you would hear through your TV speakers. So yes you will hear your BluRay
