That's what makes it a tale worth telling, IMO-- that a morally ambiguous person can still do the right thing, even at great personal peril, when the easiest thing to do is look the other way.
I think the fact that Schindler was honored by the people and descendants of those people says whether he was a hero or not. In any case, you SEE the opportunist at the beginning of the movie and how he evolves into someone who not only saves a lot of people, but risks his life to do it.

Indeed, he was a hero to those survivors/descendants, but he was only in the position to become that hero being part of the nazi party and exploiting Jewish workers who had no rights. Would a real hero even be in that position or would the real hero have told the nazis to go "f" themselves long before they became so powerful and murderous? Like I said, it's not clear cut to me though I respect different viewpoints. In any case, there are many stories and heroes more remarkable than Schindler who are not well known.

That's interesting; maybe you became impervious to Spielberg's telegraphed emotional manipulation. He really doesn't need to do that, especially in films that are already emotionally loaded and heartbreaking. I am always overcome by this movie, and indeed the "more subtle" ones that I think are even better stories from the Holocaust, e.g., The Pianist and The Counterfeiters. am with you on 'The Pianist' - much more effective. But my tastes and experience have changed as I have grown older. You're very right in addressing the emotional manipulation aspect of Spielberg - perhaps an unconscious resentment of that manipulation puts you at odds with the subject matter of the narrative

Schindler's List is a movie based on a true story and like most such movies, literary license occurs to facilitate the telling of the tale without
altering the essential meaning.

On the heels of last year's re-release of James Cameron'sTitanic in HDR, this event marks one of the very few times that a film of this magnitude and scope has been remastered in 4K, Dolby Cinema and Atmos. It provides a stunning experience on the big screen, to match the power of the film and its significant themes. This December, audiences can share the experience of a story we must never forget.

In advance of the re-release, free educational screenings of the film—coordinated by USC Shoah Foundation—will be available for high-school educators and their students in selected AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Marcus Theatres, Cineplex, Harkins and National Amusements locations in major markets in North America on Tuesday, December 4, and Wednesday, December 5.
"As curators of the world's largest collection of firsthand accounts about the consequences of hatred, USC Shoah Foundation is uniquely positioned to educate and inspire humanity to counter hate through empathy and action," said Spielberg, who established the Shoah Foundation after his experiences filming Schindler's List. The top-20 markets that will host the special Schindler's List school screenings include those in Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Sacramento, CA; San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, CA; Denver, CO; Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Orlando, FL; Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Cleveland, OH; New York City, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX; Washington, DC; Atlanta, GA; Houston, TX; Detroit, MI; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; and Seattle, WA. Additional markets will be announced soon.

I've been patiently waiting for this. I'm all for the increased resolution. I am not keen on this receiving an hdr pass. I can't imagine how it's going to treat b/w film, but imo it doesn't need it at all. I can't see it doing much, other than needless darkening.
Does this mean that the special features are finally going to be on the actual Blu-ray disc this time? Because that would be great. I haven't rebought the movie yet, so I'll probably just get this release. Also, is this the first time a home media release of the movie hasn't used the original poster art?

It seems that it'll be 2 bluray discs this time around, which is good. However, its still listing them as 480 rather than 1080 at the bottom of the case. The new 25 years later might be in 1080 though.
I bought this 25th anniversary edition recently then finally decided to watch it. It is only my second ever viewing, the first being when I was probably in my late teens. I’m 33 now and it was as harrowing as I first remembered. A masterpiece of cinematography that depicted a terrible time in human history and more frighteningly.... recent history.
I found myself shaking my head in disbelief at the foul acts of the Holocaust and random killings for sport among the senior German officers. Truly appalling.
The emotions started surfacing very quickly and unexpectedly when the ring was handed over to Mr Schindler... a proper tear jerker moment.
