Still, signing off on a theatrical screening of a (mostly) original version of the film is quite an unexpected move for somebody who said he wanted the originals to all deteriorate on old tapes until nobody knew anything but the updated versions.
The reason why they were Bonus Material was so that Marcia couldn't get Royalties from the release.
THAT is the true reason they haven't been released since what, '97?

I wonder if this "okay" for the 70mm screening may mean we'll get the Unaltered OT on the 4K UHD box set next year after all? Oh, well if not, I've got HARMY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aside from a brief bit of damage near the end (right before the Death Star explosion of all places), it looked and sounded like it had been well-cared-for. The six-track audio held up quite well.

Do you have any evidence for this old saw or are you just carrying on the rumor?

If she even has any points to begin with, I don't think she could be cut out of royalties in this way. The Special Edition is, at the very least, a work derivative of the original version, still very substantially containing her work.

Further, even if it were possible, the idea of Lucas taking such vindictive action against the mother of his child seems entirely out of character.

I thought they adopted their child?

It would be funny if that Marcia rumor was true. She screwed the handyman so then Lucas decided to screw Star Wars fans out of bitterness.

Fans of 4K77 and 4K83, what’s better, the DNR or non-DNR versions?

Just read the last couple pages.

Why would Disney need approval from Lucas to show or release an unaltered OT after their purchase of Lucasfilm? I mean, Star Wars belongs to them now. What actual say would Lucas really have?

A Saga I've been hearing was ruined since 1999. 20 years of griping about Star Wars.

The same say as any other director with approval written into their contracts.

I've been hearing that it was ruined since '97 and the Special Editions.
For me, Force Awakens is where the series goes downhill.
Though I loved Rogue One...
Solo wasn't too bad either, but Last Jedi was atrocious!

I’m starting to think that most “Star Wars fans” are not really fans of the Star Wars franchise, but rather they are fans of the 1977 film called Star Wars and maybe it’s sequel. I mean, if there are 10 films in a franchise, and you dislike or hate 7 of them, plus the creator approved editions of the other 3, are you really fans of the franchise?

1.) He could have final cut approval in his contracts from when the movies were made.

2.) He could have it in the contract of sale to Disney that only his approved versions be released.

3.) The sale of Lucasfilm to Disney made him one of the largest Disney shareholders, with all the influence and privileges that entails.

The first film was called "Star Wars." You can be a Star Wars fan without liking the garbage sequels, prequels, and spin-offs.

I might agree with that. I absolutely LOVE 4-6 (only the original versions) plus 7. I think Rogue One is very good. The others are bad to awful. So we're about half and half at this point.

The first film was called "Star Wars" and was re-titled A New Hope in 1979. So, yes, for about two years it was called Star Wars. Had there been no other movies made (ie if the film had flopped at the box office) then it would have remained as Star Wars. But that didn't happen so the film as we now know it (and have known it since 1979) is called A New Hope.
