Blank screen on HDMI connected PS3

this OP was from blackberry on Sunday and we were looking for some assistance. I've not yet set mine up yet, but my neighbor was setting his up and ran into this problem. Before he bought an HDMI cable he was using the composite cables, so he called me over to help. Between 3 of us we were unable to get a picture on his Toshiba LCD via the HDMI input. We tried shutting everything down, disconnecting the composites, unplugging everything and all we recieved was a blank screen. We manually set the setting on the PS3 with the composites because we weren't able to view the menu's via HDMI. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
