Sorry to hear it didn't work.

It sounds like either it's a PS3 with a bad HDMI port or the TV isn't fully HDCP compliant. You mentioned I believe that it was your neighbor's unit, maybe you could try to bring their PS3 and connect it to your TV.

There is also the infamous issue of the older HDTV that don't do 720p. So you would have to make sure that 720p is not selected as an output choice in the PS3 HDMI configuration.
