there are two types of surge protectors( not to be confused with UPS's or power conditioners)
One type burns itself up in a surge and then most be replaced. The other type severs the connection. The first type is your cheaper style that once they absorb the surge are dead and you have to buy a new one. THe second type is the more expensive style like a furman etc. that your fine after most surges. |

I'm telling you, a good power conditioner totally eliminates the problem of popping breakers and fuses. If that's your main problem, conditioners are the solution. You only need a UPS if your problem is interrupted downloads and file management... which, by the way, would be mitigated by improved power conditioning protecting you from small blackouts, which a good power conditioner will do. You have a limited budget. Don't let guys with a massive budget push you into something you can't afford.

MOnster does make good power conditioners, but when I compared theirs to the Furman offerings, I went with the latter. The money spent on a Furman is spent on the bits that actually do the work, rather than "bling". IOW, the Monsters look more flashy, but for the same price the Furman does a better job. I currently have the Furman Elite-15PFi, but will eventually get something like the PS Audio Premier.
Monster's questionable business practices (e.g., suing Blue Jeans Cable) is what tipped me over the edge. |

I own a Belkin, though a different model, and I have been pleased with it.

Check out www.richardgrayspowercompany.com They make the best by far.
I have the 600s and there is a noticable improvement in sound and video quality. Would not have believed it without seeing it with my own two eyes. A power conditioner is not a surge protector or battery back up. SOme people get them confused. Try to get a pure sine wave unit if it is UPS. A pure sine wave UPS is friendlier to appliances than a simulated sine wave UPS.

Only if you want to pay way more than it's worth though... and support one of the evilest companies out there. http://www.madmartian.com/legal/ for instance, and they actually sued Disney for naming a movie "Monsters, Inc."
