Default Speaker Placement

I am replacing my old HTIB speakers. In order to place the center spearker above the TV, I have to place it on a shelf 10" above the TV. Is this too far? I don't have room below the TV at all.

should be okay, if you can do it safely you could always point the center down towards the listening area.

if that's the only spot you have then there's no choice.....definitely try to prop up the back of it to point down toward the seating area as mentioned above.

I used to have my center channel mounted on a simple shelf above the TV, that was my apartment setup, but here at the house it wasn't necessary. HomeDepot has plenty of stylishly small shelves with economical prices.

At one point I had my center (with top mounted tweeter) underneath a coffee table (YES, the coffee table was my t.v. stand ) and the trim (rather large) on the under-side of the coffee table completely blocked the tweeter..... but of course the center was about 3 feet closer to the left speaker than the right one...... but my couch was along the wall on the RIGHT hand side..... so I wasn't sitting anywhere near the area that the speakers were facing...... or the T.V. for that matter (Large picture window along the left wall, and didn't make for good flow to have the couch directly facing the t.v./speakers because of other furniture etc and doors)

Basically, my point is, you sometimes have to make due with the space you have.... as long as you try to adjust the angle of the speaker etc. and do the best THAT YOU can achieve with the setup...... you won't have any regrets.

You should be okay. Just find a clever way to have your speaker pointing down. Here is a picture of what I did with my center speaker. You can check out all the photo's in my Updated Home Theater Gallery or at this link:

Default Lots of good advice

Thanks, everyone for the advice. I guess the key factor is having the speaker pointing down to ear level. I was worried that it would appear the sound was coming from above the TV and not from it. Again, thanks.
