These gotta be leaps and bounds above the DVDs or LDs.
They aren't that big a leap over the DVDs. I have both

I'm sorry, but this is an incredibly shortsighted remark. It's not like we're talking about nitrate prints from the 20s or 30s: these films aren't even 40 years old, for God's sake.

It hasn't been confirmed yet, yes, but I wouldn't call it wild speculation.

But that's not even the point-- the whole "They're HIS films, he can do what he wants" argument isn't even valid anymore. They aren't his films anymore-- he sold them to Disney. All the old arguments of the creator's versus audiences rights for these films are now a moot point. The creator relinquished his responsibility of it.

Fox own them, not Disney any release would be comarketed

Oh, haven't you heard? Lucas insisted on super-double-secret contract provisions under which he gets the four+ billion dollars and retains full control of the Star Wars universe.

Even after he dies Disney has to hold séances to get his okay before they can do anything.

He's quite the negotiator

Yes, this was covered many pages ago...so now what?
Say Disney doesn't release them. Does entitled fan now boycott everything Disney?
How funny would that be if George, as final F-you to all the venom spewers, had some clause incorporated into the Disney contract stating that the originals never be released.
I, highly, doubt any such thing happened, and I'm sure we'll see them released at some point in time. Probably when Disney has regained distribution rights to all three, or at least, Episodes 5/6 in 2020.
Even if they are released, there will some entitled fans out there that will not rest until they find fault. By this point, finding fault is ingrained into a select wacky few.

Oh boy, I love the Disney/Fox ownership loop in the argument. It's like the ride that never ends!

Well with verbiage like "in perpetuity", conceivably it never could.

But do we know whether that's still the case? What is the current situation since the Special Editions, Prequels, and finally the Disney sale? Things did change hands during that period and it seems like the debate keeps getting recycled because nobody listens to whoever has the latest news and just starts everything over at square one.

I would like the final, definitive news from somebody who actually knows what they're talking about so that this particular argument link in the debate chain can be broken once and for all.

I would pay good money to see that "Special Edition" version of The Force Awakens. I also like to punch myself in the head a lot, so same thing really.

And I'm sure it would've taken days to set up a Greedo dummy to hold a blaster and add a single badly-aimed bolt in post-production...

Besides, if you asked any UOT fan if there was an absolute guarantee of getting the original cuts of Star Wars on BD that they'd find any of the three audio mixes exhibited in 1977 quite acceptable. Personally I'd prefer the 70mm mix, but I'd take the mono or the stereo mix (provided that it was lossless, of course).
Oh, I'd want it all, obviously. And the changes are baffling, but that's beside the point. It's interesting to know that Lucas was making alterations to Star Wars five hours after it premiered. And it's not like a sound mix from an IMAX screening of Interstellar vs. a general multiplex screening or something. The audio included new/different dialogue. I'm fascinated by the fact that at least two different "versions" of Star Wars were playing in May 1977. Only audio changes, but when dealing with Star Wars, the soundtrack is pretty important.

Well, I can say I've never seen the contract between LucasFilm and Fox, but methinks since the subject is Star Wars that somewhere over the last couple decades someone would've pointed out something to the contrary.
Ball is in Disney's court. We'll see what happens.

I usually agree with you, but I think they really failed to do this series any justice on the Blu-Ray, considering that they were never scanned for HD.
The FX weren't enhanced either. The one that they did fix, they didn't even half-ass it, they quarter-assed it!
Luke's White/Blue/Green all in the same shot Lightsaber.
Matte Boxes around X-Wings and Ties are also more noticeable.

I didn't go looking for the errors, they just pop out to me.
Also, since you just saw them, what do you think about the Magical Rocks on Tatooine with R2?
And the Disappearing Windows on Cloud City?

Not to mention there are many much older films that look look far better on Blu because of proper remastering.

I've never been able to get into the TV series either. I do not know why, honestly, I just find them boring.

Uh no. This is 2014, nearly 2015, not 1984. If it is going to be released, it needs a 5.1 audio track. They can give it its mono/stereo/whatever tracks too, but they need to include a 5.1 one as well.

We don't know what the fine print says. However, what Disney wants Disney gets. Hell, I would rather Disney bought out our government as at least I would know we are going to get ****ed right if they ran it.
