Very good question.

I'm guessing that the 80GB actually had a piece of hardware that enables the software emulation that they removed in the 40GB.

I mean, if it's just software, why remove it?

The OLD 80GB = Yes (Supposely there is no hardware, it's strictly software, which is why it supports less PS2 games than the 60GB)

The NEW 80GB = No
