This thread truly is the ultimate Groundhog Day!

I have no interest in digital downloads whatsoever, in spite of many new special features.

I just want the absolutely best, and most complete set, including all the original theatrical editions.

I think Disney gets the rights for 1-3 and 5-6 in 2020 which would be about the time the new trilogy wraps up anyway (I think?).
Judging by the digital copies, they got all of the episodes apart from the original back from fox.

But why are they charging more for the full set than it will cost to buy them individually? Is there an extra extra for the complete set?

UPDATE: no there isn't anything extra. Nearly £10 more for nothing. Smooth move Google.

So I just got an email from VUDU stating the Star Wars 6 film collection is now available through HDX for the amazingly low price of $89.99. I literally laughed out loud at that price. I paid $10 less for the BD set.

You are never going to get what you want. Just like thousands upon thousands of others aren't going to get what they want. I sincerely doubt they'll ever release a final, final complete set. Even when the next batch of movies have come and gone, there is too much greed to ever release a one ring to rule them all type of thing for the masses.

We are all the cows and they are the farmers.

Then some deal must've been struck, cuz my understanding was Fox had distribution rights for all of them til 2020, at which point it would only have A New Hope. In any case, UOT isn't gonna be available for a while, which is why I won't be buying these digital copies and never upgraded to the Blu-rays. I have the 2004 DVD trilogy which is good enough for me (those are the copies I grew up on, anyway), and the Limited Edition DVDs are non-anamorphic and out of my price range. Gonna keep my fingers crossed that we get the UOT on Blu-ray in 2017 for the 40th anniversary.

I predict 400 more posts about rights ownerships and 200 more links to an outdated Hollywood reporter article

Well, it would be their loss, as I am happy with the current BD versions.

If they don't give me what I want, they don't get my money.

Used to be, not anymore. Logo is gone from all but the original film. Looks like the mouse dollar got its wish on the other films.

Such a shame people don't take the time to read previous pages of posts before dropping a comment.

It only took 50 years to get the Batman Television Series so I predict another 30 for the unaltered Star Wars trilogy. If I was FOX I would bend Disney over a barrel with their distribution rights to the first film. What do they have to lose really, it is not like FOX is going bankrupt.

Wait...are you saying the 20th Century Fox Logo and Fanfare are not on these copies?

If so, that changes everything for this potential buyer.

Avatar 2 will make more than The Force Awakens. Now the third Avatar depends on if the second sucks or not.

No, not saying that. They are absent from all but one trailer, logic dictates that they might not be on the films.
