Yeah, the movie we got is actually very toned down from some of the original ideas they had. No matter how over the top something may seem, it can always get crazier, and Jurassic World is pretty far from being as extreme as possible.

Imagine for example if JP5 was about an ancient, evil wizard who used his magical powers to open time portals and bring dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures into the present in an attempt to conquer earth. Then for the climax the archangel Michael descends from heaven, merges with the T. rex and fights the evil wizard who happens to be riding on the latest, nastiest fire-breathing hybrid dinosaur. That would be a lot more ridiculous than JW.

I am paying attention. It's you who's not because it's the raptors Hoskins is interested in the entire time due to their mutual respect for Owen. He's talking about the raptors who are a fraction of the size of the Indominus if they had the camouflage abilities of IR.

No hes talking about making the indominus smaller.

It's crazy to think that bro-nodding raptors was them using restraint. I fully expect the sequel to have laser-beams mounted on dino heads and English speaking raptors now.

Lol, wow! Using small I-Rex hybrids was one of the side projects Hoskins didn't want the lawyers to find out about.

Title will be JP2: Rogue Raptors
It will be a story about Raptors (assets as they kept being referred to in JW) doing hits for the CIA with Bryce as their trainer in knee-high stiletto boots.
JW was beyond stupid by the way.

Yep, compared to gun-wielding dino/human/dog hybrids bred in a medieval castle in the Swiss alps (yes, seriously), bro-nodding raptors is pretty restrained. See what I mean? It could have been worse John, a lot worse.

Why thank you.

The crazy/hilarious part is, some franchises have actually gone in directions that ridiculous and stupid. Take Friday the 13th for example, which begins with a woman avenging her dead son and then by the 9th installment that dead son is a body hopping demon-zombie-serial killer, then in the following movie he kills people on a spaceship and gets turned into a cyborg.

Exclusive: Jurassic World 2 may be off-island, with open-source dinos

Quote:
The most obvious piece of movie news of the year is now official: there will be a sequel (or sequels) to The Avengers-topping dinosaur behemoth Jurassic World.

Following the news that the movie has taken $1.5 billion in box office receipts worldwide, becoming the third-highest grossing film of all time behind Titanic and Avatar, Universal Studios has announced that the next movie in the series will be released in June 2018.

The sequel will feature both Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg and written by World director Colin Trevorrow. And while an official title, plot or director have yet to be announced, in an earlier interview with WIRED Trevorrow offered some exclusive hints as to what might be involved.

"Whether or not I am involved in later installments or not, I felt it was important for me to set the table," Trevorrow said. "I know they’re going to want to make them, I know that Stephen definitely wants to make several of these movies, and I want to do my job in setting the table for something that can be rich and thoughtful and interesting."

So what, exactly will it be? Or not be?

"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island," Trevorrow said. "That’ll get old real fast."

"I feel like the idea that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy."

"And this isn’t something necessarily that was in the book but is a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, is that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?"

"And Dr Wu says in the film, when he's warning Dr Mesrani, 'we’re not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur'. I think that’s an interesting idea that even if we don’t explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand. I shouldn’t use the word universe, because people will think we’re making a Jurassic World universe -- we’re not."

So there we have it -- when the sequel arrives it probably won't take place only on an island (an idea explored already in the series of course) and it probably won't just be InGen making the dinos.

Of course, whether these ideas will make it into the sequel we'll have to wait and see when it comes out in 2018.

I love how this guy puts so much thought and philosophy into ultimately making this series dumber than ever.

Well, like where they're going or not, personally I appreciate that they're trying to take the series in bold new directions rather than repeating the same old ad nauseam. Inevitably it's always going to be jarring at first, but eventually you get used to it. Godzilla went through a similar evolution and it would never have lasted as long or become as interesting and enjoyable as a series as it did if it had never dared to move away from what the '54 original was.

Obviously this may be a rather unpopular opinion as most people don't care for Godzilla, but hey.

I know, and I wasn't trying to speak for fellow Godzilla fans and say that if you like Godzilla you're bound to enjoy Jurassic World and its sequels. What I meant was, I admire the Godzilla series for not being afraid to do new, crazy things that completely contradicted what the original was about, so I'm probably biased in being excited to see the Jurassic Park franchise undergo a similar transformation. And acknowledge that most people don't care for Godzilla like I do, so they're unlikely to agree or even know what I'm talking about.

No, but his dissertations on the philosophy behind his choices for Jurassic World still ended up putting a super dumb action movie on-screen. He makes intelligent points about military application and whatnot, but when the movie comes out I bet it's raptors with lasers on their heads bro-nodding a T-Rex with tank-treads for feet and lots of explosions.

I know many loved it, and hell I even liked it, but Jurassic World was super dumb and I fear an even dumber sequel.
