Can the blu-ray discs of the US 2015 edition of Star Wars: The Complete Saga (with Darth Vader striding on the front cover) be played in region B/2?

The product details for the US 2011 edition says Region Free, but for the US 2015 edition it says Region A/1.

Still, I wonder, ... if they are the same, the discs may still be playable in B/2.

The French edition of the newer Complete Saga release is just $49 USD shipped right now. Region free:

Yes, they should be the same as the old set in terms of playback

I'm watching all six Star Wars movies today for the first time in a few years.

The Phantom Menace looks pretty bad on my 4K television, because the noise reduction is more evident than ever. Fortunately, I noticed an immediate improvement with Attack of the Clones.

The strangest thing, though...

I recently bought a Samsung BD-J5700 player, and all of my Blu-rays have played wonderfully well on it...except for these Star Wars discs from the older Complete Saga box. At about five or six random points in the first two movies, I've noticed split-second screen lags, where the picture will slow-motion and jump, but the audio is not affected. The scenes play fine after I rewind and watch them again, though.
This only happens with the Star Wars discs, and, as I mentioned, other Blu-rays have no problems.
Someone else mentioned this exact same issue with these Star Wars discs on the same Samsung model in the Blu-ray Players forum. In both instances, our firmware is up to date. Strange...
It's just a minor annoyance, though.

I've had that issue for a few frames of Phantom Menace since I bought it back upon the initial release. I should have tried to get them to replace it, but never bothered because I don't revisit that one very often and keep forgetting.

This issue happened periodically with all six of my Complete Saga Blu-rays (I own the old set, with the young Anakin on the cover.). As always, the scenes played fine when I rewinded them to watch them again.

Apparently, there is an issue with the way that these discs are read on the Samsung BD-J5700, as I gather from reading a similar comment in the Samsung thread, but these random screen lag issues did not interfere with my enjoyment of revisiting the movies (Funnily enough, the random lags never happened during the big grand action sequences.). All other Blu-rays have played perfectly well on this Samsung player, and the issue is exclusive to the Star Wars discs.

I always crack up when the Ewok says, "Eat your momma.", to Princess Leia on Endor.

My favorite is the Ewok who says "that guy's wise" after Threepio first speaks to them. And then I think the next Ewok says "that's for sure".

so the original 6 movie collection Digibook with young Anakin on the cover is being discontinued in favor of this new one with Darth Vader on the cover?...the Anakin cover art looks much better in my opinion...the color scheme and imagery is better

Nope, definitely not.

There's also a moment in The Phantom Menace right at the beginning of the pod race stadium sequence when the character say something that sounds like, "F- you."

It's at the 30 second mark of this video...

I know that he's not really saying that, just as I know that the Ewok is not actually saying, "Eat your momma.", but it still gets a laugh out of me each time.

Here is the original film (16mm) said to be "like new" starting at $2995.

I think you may be in that party all by yourself, LOL. Easily, the biggest complaint about the full series set originally was that youngling Anakin was on the cover. It could only have been worse if Jar Jar was next to him.

Personally, I'd like to see the next major release just have a large STAR WARS logo on the starfield, with the logo for each movie. Simple, elegant - and no question what it is (and don't need any photoshopped or newly created montages).

Why doesn't Disney do a release of the complete saga themselves rather than Fox?

The only downside would be the ridiculous price

A lot of us are hoping for the 40th ann (2017) of A New Hope we'll see the unaltered originals restored and released.

If not, hopefully they will at least issue high quality/new scanned special edition versions.

to each his own I guess but to me the image is a better representation of the entire 6 movie set by depicting a young Anakin with the shadow of Darth Vader...the Vader box art has too much black on it and is not as artsy...the acting ability of young Anakin is not the point but rather it better illustrates the themes of the entire series

Not to turn it into a PT/OT debate (too late...) LOL - I would disagree that it better illustrates the themes of the movies. It represents the retcon'd "theme" that Lucas used to tie the films together based on a much later decision (much later, as originally Obi-wan was the focus of the prequels, not Anakin), but it doesn't represent Star Wars at all.

If you ask anyone what their classic representative image of Star Wars is, it's very very unlikely to be youngling Anakin in front of a random Tat landscape. Yes, the subtle Vader shadow is there - but most are going to miss that anyway in consumer-land, and let's face it - Star Wars isn't supposed to be "artsy". It's supposed to be big, dramatic, epic. There is nothing Star nor Wars in that picture, and it only reminds folks of the worst of the series.

In any case, I was just stating that the majority of folks who expressed an opinion about it at release, if you want to wade a few thousand pages back, was negative on it - which is why I found it interesting that someone is lamenting it's loss.

I must have a different Blu-ray set because the 'shadow' behind Ani is that of Luke, not Vader.

No offense but, that's why you fail. You clearly don't get Star Wars at all.
It represents Star Wars wonderfully, as Star Wars isn't about wars in space, or big, epic battles. It's a family saga, and the core story is about a father and his son, and their decisions....
