I was born in 1995 and owned the Special Edition DVD with the bonus DVD theatrical version and I want to see it restored in 4k with original colors, without black crush and finally without DNR and EE.

I'm pretty sure people like you only make 10 per cents of the 90's and later people of Star Wars fans max.

I respect older fans, my mother saw it in 1977 and I want to see the same version and I respect the people who worked on the film, many matte paintings have been replaced with CGI.

Harrison Ellenshaw (who worked together with Ralph McQuarrie) still prefers his paintings over the digitally replaced mattes and so do I.

And the new Krayt Dragon call is absolutely terrible and the CGI rock in front of R2... just stupid.

George added goofy CGI stuff but didn't smooth matte lines (or grey boxes around the TIE-fighters) or finally corrected the lightsaber colors. I am glad they are correct in the original film, the pink/purple saber of Vader was done by mistake in 1997.

If anything it's more importantly the whole first six movies be converted to 3d just like George Lucas wanted.
And why don't we remaster the Mona Lisa and give her a more modern "duck face" expression while we're at it?

Based on your recent posts, it seems you're completely naive and clueless about film history or just a S-Class master troll. Either way...

How dare any of you call me a troll im a Star Wars fan just like the rest of you however I haven't seen the saga in more than five years. However I did buy the digital release of the movies to be honest I'm more than fine waiting till January to see the force awakens. Plus if I wait till January I won't have to see it with a packed theatre.

Thanks very much kind sir, you make a valid point. Appreciate the input.

If/when the UOT is released in HD I wonder how flooded the used market would get with people trying to unload their Complete Saga and OT BD sets?

I picked up the full 9-disc set once it was on sale for ~60 bucks for one primary reason, namely two bonus discs focusing on the OT. Of the OT bonus material, for me the best part was the 3 vintage documentaries from 1977-83:
  • The Making of Star Wars
  • SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back
  • Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi
While the VHS tape of the "Making of SW" was plentiful, the latter two were incredibly difficult to get a hold of on any format and cost quite a bit more to import the Japanese LDs thereof. Of course bootlegged LD-to-DVDr copies were everywhere, but I wanted a legit copy of them for my collection.

As for the actual film discs in the set, I would much rather watch my THX LDs of the OT films than the desecrated SEs on Blu-ray any day of the week.

Our theater is allowing costumes but they've imposed strict rules...no blasters, light sabers ok, no provocative skin (meaning no Slave Leias), no giant bulky costumes that could be used to hide weapons or contraband or make it uncomfortable for people sitting next to you or behind you, etc.

Since some accuse me of being a relentless George Lucas fanboy. Here is proof that I am not (once again):

I will never understand why he didn't go all the way and fix the things that everyone else considers to be distractions, but rather add things that didn't need to be added:

The lightsabers, the garbage mattes, some opticals, etc. should really have been taken care of properly for the BD release. It wouldn't have taken long to do so at all, so there is NO logical reason why they weren't addressed.

At the same time he changed stuff no one asked for:
The rocks in front of R2-D2 (which are inconsistent, as one moment they are there, the next they are gone),
The gate of Jabba The Hutt's palace (same thing)
The dragon scream

I find the re/disappearing rocks in front of R2-D2 the most distracting of the additions, because it's so inconsistent.
The gate certainly defies logic, but it's so short a scene, it hardly matters to me.

I like the blinking Ewoks, although it was not exactly necessary.
Regarding Vader's "Nos" at the end. I actually think it adds intensity to the scene.
Here is why --> (Thinking something is one thing, uttering the words is the next level, followed by action.)

Some of the SE visual effects could have been improved upon, such as the Sarlaac Pit, the dance number, well, a lot really.
Also, some of the old matte paintings could have been fixed:
The obviously painted Millenium Falcon in ROTJ, when Han, Leia, etc. leave in the imperial shuttle to go to Endor is a good example.

The ROTS Yoda and a CG Jabba The Hutt would be great in the OT as well.

Since I am aware that this would go too far for some, seamless branching between puppets/CG characters would perhaps be best to satisfy everyone.

However, I can live with the imperfection, both new and old.
It's just not THAT important to me.

Concerning the PT:

The deleted scene with Padme and her ...looking at Anakin and her father talking through the window should definitely have been reinstated, as it adds a lot to the believabilty of their love story.

Also, the previously deleted podrace scenes now put back into the movie proper should have been redone in 1080p (at least), as the lower resolution is quite distracting at times.

Furthermore, Yoda in AOTC should have been replaced by the ROTS model.

No DNR in TPM. This had the potential to look the best of the prequels, yet the DNR severly hinders it from achieving stellar marks in the PQ department.
So uncalled for.
(It's still a million times better than the DVD though.)<--This is a "slight" exaggeration, of course.

Overall, there are things that could have been done better, and he could have gone out with a bang, at least when it comes to finishing the Saga according to HIS vision, yet he didn't do it thoroughly, but rather tinkered with it here and there, and left them unfinished yet again.

Perhaps, for some this means the end of the universere as we know it, to me they are just movies. Incredibly good movies, but still movies, and they don't define my well-being......May the force be with you.

Now, that George Lucas is no longer in charge, I don't know if anyone is ever going to finish them. I guess he didn't expect it when he was working on the BD release. Correct me, if I am wrong.

There should be no changes at all, even including things like fixing mattes and lightsabers. If it's not how it came out in '77 it's not how I want it on Blu Ray.

Put that stuff on a bonus disc by all means, though.

You're not the fan Disney are looking for ...

Restorations are big business and great public relations. The release of the original trilogy will be huge and attract fans new and old. If done properly the movies will look better than they ever have and will once again return them to their timeless pre-CGI status.

Disney are very aware of this.
