Gonna rewatch both first movies tomorrow and see this next Sunday with Lights Out.

Not gonna like seeing Anton in the final Trek role...I imagine it will be like Walker in Furious 7.....like it was a constant bummer to see his face.

I was worried about that too. I dunno if I wanna see it right now because of that, just not in the right mindset to not feel bad about it.

I'm not going to lie - the first couple of times you see him you definitely feel it. Having said that after about 15 minutes in you're just enjoying his performance, especially when teamed up with Kirk. Yelchin is really enjoyable there.

The feeling returns right at the end as there's one shot that lingers on him a little. You kind of get the feeling that you know that's the last you'll really see of him. Yeah, it's a little sad but by the end but he's not the little kid any more. He's had a good character arc and if anything you're hopefully going to feel what I did which was a sense of satisfaction. He managed to cram a lot of character into three heavily crowded films so this final performance is a great legacy. In case you're wondering, there are ways to acknowledge and explain his loss in future films too...

I'm glad that this is the reaction. During some interviews a while back I remember the crew saying that this was a big film for Chekov, with some fan speculation that he may die. I'm glad that this isn't the case as that would be unbearable to watch on screen.

Do initial impressions tend to be accurate?. Is there a chance for a sudden fluctuation to either direction?.

Generally yes. The only major exception I can remember is Batman V Superman, which started at around 40%, and is now at 27%.

Nah, there's been other examples. Exodus Gods and Kings a couple years back started around in the 60's but ended almost exactly at he same score BVS got. And just recently, ID:R started around the 55-60 range but finished at 32%.

I would imagine it will end up around 75%. Personally, I'd rate it a little higher but I think in the eyes of the general public it'll settle a little once it goes wide. Plus, with a franchise like this you've got to account for people who'll go to extremes at both ends of the spectrum including those that will refuse to see faults and those people quite happy to proclaim "this is not my Trek". Being that Beyond is getting some good buzz now you can already see that's making that crowd a little more vocal.

At the end of the day things are looking promising so hopefully that translates to a decent box office return and a solid critical reception for a film quite well done on a relatively compressed schedule. This team is finding their feet so a fourth outing with this crew would be just fine with me.

As a long time Star Trek fan the idea of a big budget film franchise running alongside a TV series in the prime universe is great news. It won't be like 20 years ago when you had films every few years and two series running in tandem but the thought of 13 quality episodes a year and a film every few years is very exciting. It's been a long time coming!

Man, not cry worthy I hope?

That final shot of Dom and Brian driving in separate ways got me good for Fast 7 and oddly enough, that scene in Night At The Museum 3 where Teddy says goodbye one final time to Stiller hit me right in the gut badly too.

Hate saying goodbye to good actors.

That's true, BvS was just the first example I thought of. I remember every hour or so it would drop around 2%.

Depends I suppose. I never really have so I wouldn't be one to judge that successfully. It doesn't have a finality to it but in the back of your mind you know that's the last time you'll see him. At the same time there's a fully realised, complete performance there you can enjoy and there's plenty of good in that.

It started in the high 70s or so.

If it wasn't rated then it would say "No Rating Yet" or "Tomatometer Not Available..."

The first time I saw the reviews it was 0-4. Not sure how it would start out in the 70's

I knew MOS started that high and dropped.

It's a decent metric, pretty honest and accurate for the most part - unlike say a Blu-ray.com poll (Ghostbusters) or IMDB.
