I read it the wrong way also. The way it's worded and a lack of an initial comma makes it easy to misread.

Universal haven't bothered to restore them.

They've been cut in the US since 1960!

I saw this at Walmart today. I'm not sure, but I think it was priced at $8.88 (or something close to that).

What evidence is there that the German print is Hitchcock's preferred version over every other version released in the world?

His preferred or not would you not want to see all of the movie ? Universal sounds like the issue here .

Every movie has cut scenes. The US version is "all" of the movie. And no, Universal is not the issue.

Well, just offer thw US theatrical and the gory german cut on one disc and everybody would be satisfied. Seamless branching should make that possible.

And leaving the fingers from the dnvr tools, the current disc is far from perfect.

I remember reading many years ago about how Hitchcock had to negotiate with the MPAA (of the day) to get Psycho passed with cuts. His main concern was getting the shower scene through intact, which he did. The UK version butchered (pun intended) the shower scene, not sure if the other material was included or not. Since the VHS era all circulated prints have been taken from the US version, Hitchcock was probably dead by then.

Isn't the UK release just a smidge better regarding image quality? Because it has the Original Cinematic Audio in Lossless but also a bonus episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Only reason why I own the US release is because I got it in the Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection US Boxset. Also so I could use Nissen's awesome custom covers and it has full color disc label artwork.

Anyway you want to look at it , It's still missing scenes . They should have at least put them on as deleted scenes on a blu . What is the big deal here and defending billion dollar company Universal ?

If you can't find it there, Best Buy has an end cap with the new pop art titles. Psycho is 9.99.

A branching option would have been ideal.Failing that,UNIVERSAL should have included the deleted fragments as a bonus;either as DELETED SCENES or woven into a new documentary.

No, it's not. Those scenes were never included in the US release, therefore those scenes are not missing, and not necessary, since the legacy of the film over the last 55 years has been pretty well established without them. The US version was Hitchcock approved since he had final cut, so anything else is not his version of the movie.

If you're going to use that fuzzy logic, then EVERY movie is missing scenes, and that simple isn't the case. Even "uncut" versions of movies are missing scenes that were shot but ultimately but before release.
