Yes, agreed. But I think instead of better it's the preferred way. The receiver displays which audio codec is being decoded. It's easier to setup the player to bitstream than decode. When the player decodes there are more options to wade through. And, since PCM is displayed on the receiver when the player does the decoding, you can't be so sure that the player was setup correctly other than getting PCM and the number of channels input. The receiver does everything for you when you bitstream. It's much simpler way to go and more convenient.
