My respect from Simon Pegg has grown threefold. TY.

TFA was about 70% acceptable, but then giant space planet weapon thingy, that sucks the "fuel" from a sun, and can direct it at multiple targets at once, and the speed of light or physics seems irrelevant for the travel time of this magnificent beam of destruction, or for those witnessing it, but I digress, at least it wasn't a JJ Abrams movie using an exploding warp core to provide more thrust than warp engines to escape the gravitational pull of wormhole.

Now, before you say, dubious, the originals have sounds in space... well ok, it would be a boring movie without sound so I can give a degree of suspense of disbelief to accept this small fact. In fact, since the gun operators appear in open atmosphere, one might even assume that "small moon" with gravity and mass might even have accumulated a thin atmosphere that could account for near surface sounds in the trenches of deathstar space sequences. Space battles...

Yeah, I understand what they were going for. Still, I'd probably have done it differently.

To tell someone that their opinion is wrong is wrong in itself. I have no respect for anyone who does that. It's being a bully.

So you have no respect for someone else's opinion when they have no respect for other's opinions?

I kinda love Simon Pegg, and how he doesn't get the irony of his own comments is maybe part of what makes him funny. You don't dislike somebody because of something they like unless you're mostly superficial. That is unless they're in to racism or Country Pop.

Maybe, no prequels, sequels, or reboots.

So basically, they don't want anything at all? With a franchise this huge, that's impossible.

Yeah. Sometimes people are just happy with what is available and don't see the need for something unnecessary.

Simon Pegg is trash anyway, dude's whole career is a result of riding the coattails of people who actually have talent (Edgar Wright and JJ Abrams). He's entitled to his opinion but I wouldn't give it much weight.

Considering even RotJ was to an extent a failure too, get back to the core of ANH, ESB, and pickup with a reboot of EP VI. We can either unfreeze Han and have him be old Harrison Ford and old Leia and old Luke and it took 35 years to track him down, or you can have an immediate folowup to ESB and cast new actors in the roles. Do RotJ right and maybe the rest will fall into place.

I like the prequels and I thought TFA was fantastic but I'm also one of those fans that all I really ever wanted was for the original cast to just make some more adventures back in the 80s and 90s. The stuff we saw in the novels and comics. It's really kinda simple, those adventures were great and a decent substitute but it would be hard for some fans to understand why they just didn't make more movies.

TFA did so well because it hit so many of those archetypes but at the same time it didn't because it ignored all those other stories that had kept the fans going for literally decades.

Rogue One may do better in this aspect because it's hitting some of the ideas seen in the old RPG supplements- the Rebel commandos doing raids against Imperial bases. They don't have to see any prequel characters or aged OT actors.

(I accept it all, I don't share all of these feelings I'm just trying to lend some insight.)

I loved when he said that shit about the PT and those who enjoy them, then complained because people gave STID a bunch of shit for being a bland, predictable and overall shitty movie. "No you don't get it, we tried hard, people put alot of love into it! People need to quit complaining about movies."

I see he can dish it out, but he is certainly very much thin-skinned to criticism.

Well, he co-wrote Spaced and did passes on the Cornetto Trilogy movies- which are Edgar Wright's claim to fame, so I wouldn't go quite that far. It's funny, though, when you really like an artist and wish they wouldn't open their mouth so much.

Except for when it stole ideas from them.

Yes, I will admit that we have seen some of these elements before-the droid holding a secret message, the rogue warrior turning on what he once believed was the right path, a seduction to evil, a journey into the light, a giant, larger than life sized death planet-we've seen these plot points before. But keep in mind-this is a SAGA! It's supposed to rhyme ("It's like poetry, it rhymes"-George Lucas). As a writer, you have to stay consistent with what you're writing about. You have to keep your poetry or stories flowing properly or else things become convoluted and confusing, and that doesn't make sense to your audience, or whoever is reading/watching your work. Heck, that was a HUGE complaint about the Prequels, was it not!

To remake a film is to take a pre-existing film and basically update it. To mirror and parallel a film is to pay tribute, while making it feel old and new at the same time. That's basically what I'm trying to say here! Parallels are not a remake, nor is mirroring, and I feel like that's something that people are misunderstanding here. I'm sorry if I sounded a bit harsh and upset while writing this, but I can't hold back while a great film is insulted and accused of just being a blatant cash-grab or rehash of something we've seen before.

If your biggest complaint with this film is that it is too much like the original films, then that is NOT a complaint, but rather a COMPLIMENT! Isn't that what all of us wanted, fans and newbies alike?!
If you need some variety...

1. I don't care for how they handled any of the OT characters. That said, I still loved watching Han on screen again.

2. Chewie's magic bowcaster. That all fell so flat for me and they beat it into the ground. The bowcaster never had impact like that in the OT and to think Han never fired it in 30 plus years is stupid.

3. Poe being left for dead on Jakku and then reappearing later in the film. I like Poe as a character but this was just lazy. Lucas would have been crucified for this...but JJ gets a pass???

The series has always had a "picking up in the middle" kind of feel. Also Rey is good at everything without training because that's a Jedi thing, Anakin and Luke were the same.
I disagree with that last sentence whole-heartedly (also not everything she's good at is related to being a potential Jedi). It takes Luke three films and he goes thru a journey before he gets to where Rey ends up in one...and let's be honest, she didn't need Han, Chewie, and Finn to rescue her...she was maybe 10 minutes from setting Death Star III to blow before taking off in Kylo's shuttle.

1. Moving objects with the force: We don't see Luke do this until ESB. Rey does it at the end of TFA.

2. Jedi mind trick: Luke didn't do this until ROTJ and even then to mixed results. Rey nails it in TFA.

3. Lightsaber skills: Luke had his a$$ handed to him in ESB and lost a hand. Rey takes down Kylo in TFA.

4. Experiencing visions: Luke didn't experience this until ESB when he saw his friends in trouble in Bespin. Rey experiences this halfway thru TFA.

5. Character growth: Luke is whiny kid in ANH and impatient in ESB...both character flaws he has to overcome. Rey doesn't show the slightest character flaw.

6. Piloting skills: This one is a bit closer as Luke is able to jump into an X-wing in ANH without any prior experience in it but Rey is able to handle a ship designed for a co-pilot and pull off some fantastic moves.

7. Communication skills: Luke learns to speak droid and Wookiee throughout the films. Rey already has this down.

All of this leads to her story feeling very bland to me...
