are tvs even set up with color bars? i dont think so. unless youre going by those old criterion dvd features of color bars. i mean to properly do color bars like a tv news station you need to match it with the black bars as well, and then comes waveform and vectorscope...nothing amateurish about it.

Carrie has no such issues and looks completely like film, The Thing looks pretty good/decent but is not a solid representation of how film should look and is capable of looking much, much better. |

I would seriously look at hiring someone reputable to do a full cal as you have severe drift (especially with greyscale) given it's almost an 8 year old plasma.

It might have some mild sharpening baked in, similar to the Fifth Element. I didn't really see it despite being picky and having a large screen, but I am not super sensitive to sharpening, it might be there. That alone does not mean it looks "digital" though. It still looks amazing and much more like film than the previous BD.

I received my order of Carrie and Glengarry today and I just want to take the time to give Bull Moose some props for the great service.
The price was right. The customer service response was right. The delivery time was relatively short. The slipcover was there. The condition of both cases was pristine. ...I would happily order from these guys again. ![]() |

I went to the screening last night and had a great time. Lots of people dressed up, and there was a costume contest. The audience was appreciative, but respectful. In other words, everybody cheered at the big moments, but it wasn't full out Rocky Horror Picture Show with people yelling at the screen throughout. When Carrie went on her rampage, they flipped on all the red lights in the theater and the audience went bonkers. The panel was good, but I thought Bryan Fuller was a little annoying. I did learn a few new things, but I'm curious to see if they're repeated on the blu-ray interviews. As to the movie, I thought it looked fantastic. I didn't have any issues with the framing, and actually some of the split screens looked very slightly lopsided to the other side, so it seemed balanced overall. I can see how someone not used to seeing real film grain might find it to be a grainy presentation, but this is the level of grain I'm familiar with. It didn't look wonky like some of the grain in other presentations I've complained about. Assuming the DCP matches the blu-ray, I should be very happy.

Finished watching Carrie Collector's Edition and it looked quite nice. I think this is maybe the third time I've ever seen this film...and have a question for those super familiar...
1) When Nancy Allen [Show spoiler] Is that word not meant to be heard or said? I'm not sure if it's an audio blip. ![]() 2) Does DePalma actually fast forward/high speed the guys at the tux shop in front of the mirror for a few moments? ![]() |

It works as comic relief, but it was really more of an editing choice. Paul Hirsch talked about it at the screening last night. He had already made two jump cuts in the scene and didn't want to make another, but this section was too long. He had seen a movie where they used this technique of speeding up through the unimportant portions of a long scene of dialogue, and he decided to try it here to maintain the pacing.

I don't understand why a jump cut wasn't used. It wouldn't have been ideal, but it would have been better than speeding up the film. I wish I could do a fan edit.
