Ah but I am a Constant Reader and hence I don't just want to understand the story but fully absorb and experience it.

I have to say, now at page 550 of Black House, even though the references are few and far between, I am SOOOOO glad I took the time to read it. I had tears in my eyes and goosebumps all down my arms reading about Parkus explaining to Jack about the Crimson King, the Beams, that Roland may no longer be the last Gunslinger and that there are three more he has trained, Sophie speaking the high language, etc., etc. Looking forward to seeing how the Black House ends up - Jack has just discovered Henry in his studio and listened to his final tape.

Absolute magic.

Plus The Talisman is absolutely one of King's best God-pounding books (credit to Mr. Straub as well of course) right here and now, so to journey back into the land of The Territories has been most enjoyable too once the book finally got going around page 200.
