Here let me put this in laymans terms. If you call someone a liar after they have told lies is this a judgement?

If you call someone scum using the classic defintion "a low worthless person" as what they are based on the reasons you give a "judgment"? Say for instance chld molester...beating pregnant woman...etc. i think these are universals that you just down't do and categorize into "low and worthless" especially repeat offenders. Fenucci...a sort of stretch, but taking money just to take I put into hurting families which translates to children, but also the fact that he is stealing from the poor, I am sorry, I look at it differently. Not saying I agree, but Vito threatened death for not giving money. Bud I call that justifiable, and even self defense. Though he should have at least got into an argument, but like with Han shooting Greedo we don't wait for that right?

Here is where we differ. You think that someone that murders is all in the same class no matter the reason. This is like a Catholic/God judgment thing and I just don't respect.

Quote:
I didn't base that comparison on "just" the murdering. I based that comparison on both of them being murderers who put on a charming face to people in their circle. Obviously there are also vast differences, too.
Well then I stand corrected. At least you see that much. Although I gotta admit the "charming" is also not the same. I truly feel Vito did have real emotions and not sociopathic like Charles Manson.

Quote:
No way for me to sugar coat this - your definition of justifiable homicide is gross to me. It accepts killing another person with pre-meditiation, with financial, social, and political benefits, and all while rejecting more moral, if less convenient, options that don't involve homicide at all.

Justifiable homicide is if someone is shooting at you and you shoot back to save your life in immediate danger. This is never the case for Vito and Michael.
I understand your pint, and I understand the law, but people have gotten justifiable on much more..gross to you or not.

Quote:
How is "no kidding" disrespectful? It's an acknowledgment of our impasse.
Or it is simply could be a put down...like no shit your views are obvious. You say its not...ok my mistake. Still don't think it was respectful.

Quote:
I respect your right to believe what you believe in regards to what the movie means to you. I don't respect your conclusions and opinions as being soundly based in the evidence of the film. I simply find your interpretation of the film in regards to Michael not having a fall into corruption to be an untenable position.
I am glad you respect my rights, but understand I had them anyway so don't need that.

Quote:
And I'm not attacking you. Attacking you would be calling you names and such. Rather, I'm questioning your moral standards because you seem to justify murder far beyond what I and most of society find morally acceptable, for reasons such as Vito being compassionate.
I am not attacking....I am just attacking saying you have no moral code and are different to most of society?

Quote:
But this has gone on for too long. We're starting to talk in circles, and we are way, way, WAY off topic for this thread. I said before I was done, but now I absolutely am.

Adieu
No kidding.

This thread needs to get back on track of crapping on the prequels and George Lucas...not each other.

You come in this thread, you have to expect arguments like this to occur in cycle of course.

But there's something just so much more painful about seeing The Godfather subjected to pro-prequel (anti) logic this way...

It's heartbreaking, truly.

I'm not sure what point you're making or why you think I blame him. I was asking whether or not Lucas regrets selling Star Wars because if he still had ideas of what he wanted to be in future sequels, the new owners wouldn't be obligated to use them and then he won't get his stories told.

I don't know if Lucas regrets selling Star Wars but as someone who loves The Force Awakens and the new comic books series and minis I thank him.

I am not saying anything about you. I am just saying the tons of money thrown at him has something to do with it...but regrets, I am sure he has a few being his creations.

I was just trying to give you a reason. Sorry if it came off wrong.

As someone who loathes TFA and think the comics are as mediocre as they've always been, I miss his creativity.

Hopefully Lucasfilm, Fox, and Disney will negotiate a deal for the Theatrical Cuts to be restored and released on Blu-Ray. The 40th Anniversary is a really good opportunity for that.

I think that the only way there will be another successful home video release of the Original Trilogy is if the Theatrical Cuts are included in HD.

Does Disney usually give advance notice when releasing major titles or do they usually just spring it on you with little warning?

LucasFilm doesn't have to negotiate with Fox, Fox will do what they're required to do ... distribute. That's all they've got. An agreement to distribute six movies.

Fox will happily release it when Disney says so. It would be stupid to say no when it's the best time for the release. I can't think of better time than now.

I really hope they'd also release their own "semi specialized editions" so to speak. Keeping some of the better changes but reverting things like Han/Greedo, Noooo, etc.

What about a version where everyone is replaced by Mickey and friends?

Luke Skywalker = Mickey Mouse
Princess Leia = Mini Mouse
Han Solo = Goofy
Chewbacca = Pluto
Obi-Wan Kenobi = Donald Duck
Darth Vader = Pete
Lando Calrissian = Daisy Duck*

*I ran out of male characters

I'm a little dubious on that prospect, because then you'd have to go through the questions of what goes, what stays, and who decides this. I'd rather they just release some kind of "archive" set that includes the original versions and possibly the 1997 Special Editions for historical and curiosity purposes.

I suppose maybe they could make brand new versions akin to the Blade Runner final cut, like going through the film and tweaking all of the fx and production errors (maybe even keeping the revised Palpatine scene in Empire to that effect). I don't know who would supervise it though, since I presume Lucas wouldn't be interested and the directors of the other two films have passed away. Other key members of the production team, perhaps?
