I wouldn't call it a "scan"; it's a thing they made with a still camera.

In fact I enjoyed watching the complete 35mm scan of the original ANH that got out there, grainy as hell but felt like the original film again.
A majority of what was used in the last release was from the Blu-ray with film scans to supplement.

The male host is horribly annoying, but it was an interesting call out for something major happening. Considering The Star Wars Show was the official place for the reveal of "The Last Jedi" I would take it to actually be an announcement of something significant. Considering they mentioned this as an aside to the 40th Anniversary panel, I think it means more than the first trailer reveal of The Last Jedi.
I'm hopeful, but it just sounds like a tease to me.
Nothing from that makes me think anything OT on BD related will be happening.

It's a stretch sure, but I don't know what else they can really tease regarding the OT.

They'll probably just have a lot of the still-living cast and crew there, including Harrison. There will be a giant hole left by Carrie's absence. I would give up any hope of an OT to have her back.

The point is that Lucasfilm will be able to present the OOT in top quality in the future with little more work than they are already putting into their archiving efforts. I've seen the old "the OOTs no longer exist!" crap crop up again (not necessarily here), and it's just comes from a place of ignorance.
No, you post a picture of yourself holding a piece of the UOT negative, or you're just a giant box of LIES!

Indy...no. I've had the pleasure to be able to talk to Capt since I was a 28 year old arrogant twit. Now I'm a 40 year old twit (not so arrogant, le sigh...)

Anyway, he's not spinning you. Ya know, some day people on these forums are going to realize not everyone they're talking to is just some goober from Comic-Con, they're talking to people who have turned their love into their profession. CV is one of those guys. That's all I can say. To CV you listen, you live longer, Dr. Jones.

I agree with Indy. The more time that passes, I have to wonder how big a fan base the OT has.
On message boards and conventions they seem legion. In real life...well there are a lot of content Joe Averages out there.
2020?! That's three years away, man.

Will we even have a Blu Ray marketplace in 2020?

I don't even know how well the original unaltered trilogy would sell these days. Most people probably already own it and don't know/care what the "unaltered" thing is, plus we're now too in an ever digital landscape of streaming and iTunes.

If the big announcement on Thursday of Star Wars Celebration for the 40th anniversary is just the release of a 4K version of the special editions, well that would only anger me.

I will not ever ever ever ever ever purchase the special editions again.

The only proper tribute to the greatness of Star Wars is to release it in its Oscar winning form. It is a piece of history and deserves to be restored and preserved. Anything less from Disney/Lucasfilm would just be a letdown.

Why is it so hard for them to just give the fans what they've wanted for 20 years?

They'll announce streaming-only 3D versions of the 2011 OT.

That's when the distribution deal with Fox ends for the first 6 films, sans IV.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict HV will be alive and kicking in 2020.

I'm not doubting that they're doing it. I just don't think it matters.

I figure you guys might be interested in my interview with Bill Hunt. We talk a bit more in depth about the supposed 2017 Blu-ray release and how it's probably not happening. Interview starts at 8:45 in.

At least we know the 4K restoration of A New Hope is the SE (it sounds like the latest version). I'm going to speculate it stems from Reliance Media Works that was leaked several years back.

Typecast against his father, Han Solo. Your dad is the macho space pirate bad ass with no force awareness. You take after your grandfather and are a whiny brat. You also have dumbo ears that remind people of Jar Jar Binks. This character sounds awful on paper, then you cast Adam Driver to play him. Sold on being a whiny wuss.

Adam Driver's casting always sticks out for me, he looks nothing like Han or Leia, unless Leia was fed up with Han spending too much time with his Wookiee, and went behind his back
