The Lynch version introduces so many weird things that the book never even hinted. Weirding guns, bald Bene Gesserit, 3rd stage navigators, etc. Watch it to get a sense of "the history", but get the German releases of the TV mini-series and Children of Dune to tide you over until the Villeneuve version.

I agree. I have seen other 35mm films from the 80s look great with 4K scans and I think this one would not be an exception. Universal would have to do something with those dirty optical shots though.

No ... definitely not ... doesn't have a UHD blu-ray player ... so that will never happen. Sony's reason:

Our feeling is that while physical media continues to be a big part of the games business, we see a trend on video towards streaming. Certainly with our user base, it’s the second biggest use case for people’s time on the system so we place more emphasis on that area.

Which is why the PS4 supports 4K streaming ... not 4K blu-ray's.

Ah, 4K streaming. That's why I thought it did. I want a UHD player, but there's no way I am buying a Samsung with their BD player track record.

Look at Oppo 4K players ... they still make great players .. however expensive.

Yeah, the one I wanted was $600, but I can't justify it since I don't utilize SACD and DVD-A.

I want one too, but take that price plus the Canadian/US exchange rate at 1.31, it makes it over $700 for me.

I'm on the fifth book now, only about fifty or so pages in but enjoying it so far.

Book three can be a bit heavy going as it sacrifices plot development for lots of philosophising but stick with it as I found the fourth book to be really compelling.

Definitely check out the Lynch movie; I would recommend you start with the theatrical cut as long as you aren't too precious about the changes he makes to some of the material.

The extended cut had no involvement from Lynch and has some terrible editing and sound mixing but is worth a watch if you are a completist.

The version of the movie that is closest to the book is the Spicediver edit which can be found online.

Slightly off topic but is the Umbrella release the best option for the mini series on BD or is there a better release out there?

I still need to get it and Children Of Dune.

It's not just Dune. There are many titles where the DE release is the best for PQ: Open Range, A Beautiful Mind, The Sixth Sense, etc.

So these are the only options for getting this on Bluray. I wonder why there wasn't an US or UK release of this.
The German version is an extended cut?
