if I were to get a bluray that still has the "ferocious" line.......where do I look? because I heard some Australian versions still have it intact.

I don't think one exists.

So while the Departed is a fantastically done film, it is essentially three movies in one condensed runtime. Infernal Affairs, Affairs Part II, and Affairs Part III are also excellent films and their biggest advantage is being spread across three feature films.

You don't have to watch all three to appreciate the series, The Departed is mainly focused on the first Infernal Affairs. Its interesting to witness the differences in police style, Hong Kong mafia versus Irish Mobsters, and ethics between the two films.
The Departed gets better with each viewing. The dark humor is well played.

I thought it was more like the green becoming blue.

At least this upcoming "Heat" Blu-ray isn't softer and has misframing like the new 4K transfer for the new "Saturday Night Fever" Blu-ray.

Are you sure the new one isn't a DVD?

That's called "contrast" and "not being teal'd to shit," respectively. Not every DVD era master was accurate.

Wowzers. I hadn't looked into that one at all. That can't just be them removing artificial sharpening, can it?

Which is the truth of the matter.

The color balance is clearly corrected in the Goodfellas remaster. The color of outdoor light on overcast days should be blue, not greenish (unless we're watching Twister and the storm is coming). OMG, blue suits exist again. And between green prison walls and neutral grey ones I'm going to believe more they were grey.

But that Saturday Night Fever sharpness difference... I'd want to see some full-size samples on that. Brightness/contrast look closer to correct in the 2017 version given the settings, though. Especially the haziness of the disco club scene.

You can rest assured that the Saturday Night Fever transfer is great as well. Outright beautiful

Except that's not misframing, it's proper framing. It's also proper 1.85 as opposed to the previous version's 1.78.

And using web-res images to compare and call it fact is eye-rolling at best. Fever looks like film, as opposed to the digitally sharpened 2009 release. Maybe watch it full size like you should before making wildly inaccurate statements.
