They need a way to determine if its under warranty your receipt is your documentation that you purchased it...

Without it how do they know you didn't find it from the back of a dumpster after a angry girlfriend threw it out.

Some people print out gift receipts when giving something expensive such as a ps3 so there is proper documentation, gift receipts usually do not contain price of the item.

The warranty starts the date of purchase not manufactored.

Sony is being picky. Many companies will use the manufacture date in lieu of a receipt. MS will.

I can't see why they can't use the manufacture date if it's within the last 12 months. You'd hardly have bought it before it was manufactured, well not unless you have a special DeLorean

Well, if you complain enough you will probably get what you want. Just keep in mind the people you are talking to are human beings and should be treated as such. Though Sony isn't in the wrong for not accepting it as they cannot verify its not in warranty. Still, it would be nice of them to do it.

Yea it would be nice of them.. Ive been emailing this guy from playstation all morning about fixing mine or getting a new one..

It might? I've never saved receipts on anything, and I've never had a company even balk about honoring a warranty based on manufacture date. It's pretty rediculous and unreasonable not to. It's not like you bought it 15 months ago if it was only manufactured 10 months ago.

Stop emailing them and call them right now. I've done tech support with Sony via email and its very close to worthless. I didn't get any viable answers or support until I picked up the phone.

I just got off the phone with the guy from playstation and he said i would have to pay 140$ for service without a receipt... but i didnt try at all to get anything out of him... I was just trying to be nice

Well you can persistent while still being nice. Try calling them again and tell them that their answer isn't acceptable for you as a consumer. If they continue to say no, just ask to speak with a supervisor. Keep in mind that you shouldn't start lying to them and need to keep your story straight.

As long as you keeps your facts straight and not give up I'm confident that they'll make you a happy customer.

mine busted two days ago and sony still honored my warranty even though five days had passed that my warranty expired....as far as having it as a gift, you still do need to have proof of purchase...oh yeah and mine was a 40 gig originally too....so i don't know know whats up with the 40 gig ps3...
