Hey guys,
Hoping someone can help. I have my PS3 hooked up to the t.v. with an HDMI cable, and have an optical cable hooked up to the receiver for surround sound. The problem, I can only either play through the receiver, or through the t.v., and every time I want to switch from one to the other I have to go to the system settings. Does this sound right? Of course I like the surround sound, but it's not always feasable to have the sound really loud so once in awhile it's nice to just turn on the t.v. and not worry about the receiver. Ideas? |

What type of audio can you not get with optical or can you get them all?

I just thought I would point out that optical cables have the bandwidth for lossless audio (up to a certain point), I am guessing that they decided not to allow them to transmit because of equipment that is already out there that would allow people to make a digital copy of the hi-def audio.
Anyway could you run an audio out of your receiver to the TV so you could use the TV speakers that way? I know some receivers don't decode the digital audio for a tape out, but I thought I would throw it out there. |

This seems to be quite a common question.
I am in the same situation. I can't really use optical sound with SingStar, Guitar Hero or Rockband due to the lag, but I do want the sound to go through the receiver but using the supplied composite connectors but I am not able to do this with my receiver for some reason. I might need to get me some component cables! |

So, so far so good for me. I just wish I thought of it sooner. |

Maybe I am not reading the post right but why if you have a surround system would even want to use your tv speakers? If you want to play quieter just simply turn your sub off and turn down the system.

It really doesn't matter the reason, it sucks that they designed it this way. Every other component I have with optical or digital coaxial will do this. |

I'm not even sure if my TVs' speakers even work. I can't stand the sound of TV speakers.
