I'm sure I'll get a biased answer in this thread, but I only have time and money to watch one film, It or Mother! Which one would you guys recommend to an average movie-goer?

From what I know, he's done two major interviews. One on Jimmy Kimmel, and the other one on Conan.

Doesn't matter who we want to play Bev, its 99% chance Chastain will. I think she's a little overexposed.

100% It for the "average" movie-goer, and that's unbiased, because I enjoyed both films. Even cinephiles are divided on Mother!

You know, a lot of people (both people who liked it and didn't like it) have been saying the film wasn't scary, and on one hand, I don't understand that in the slightest, but on the other, I totally get it. I've only seen the movie once so far (I know, I know.. I feel physical pain over this), and the only time I was "scared" when watching it was during the opening scene with Georgie's death, and that's because I was a little nervous as to how far and how graphic they were going to go. But either way, I still knew what was about to happen.

That's the thing about this movie: I've read the novel several times. I know the miniseries verbatim. I KNOW how this movie will play out and that none of the Losers' Club is truly at risk here. So while I jumped a few times and felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up a couple of times at the creepy atmosphere and images I was seeing before me, I was never truly scared, I suppose.. but not because it wasn't scary, but because I knew what was going to happen.

So for all those people in the same paperboat as me (with knowing the story too well beforehand), whether you liked it or didn't like it, know that it probably was scarier than you think, you just didn't feel that the stakes were as high as they are in other horror films/remakes/whatever you want to call this.
I agree 100%. I never got scared, but it did set up some great tension. But I only really ever got scared.
When I was 9 we watched CHILD'S PLAY. I had a Cabbage Patch Kid named Allen, he had red hair and looked like Chucky. When Chucky finally came alive when Andy's mom was gonna throw him into the fire, that got me good. We had to throw Allen into a closet and then tie jump rope around the door to make sure he stayed put.

But....that said, I really don't get freaked out in movies anymore. A few scenes here or there, but I just because a horror movie doesn't scare me, doesn't mean it's not a great film.

Same goes with a comedy that doesn't make me laugh. It can be a blah comedy, but can still make for a decent movie story wise....if that makes sense. Example of late would be DELIVERY MAN with Vince Vaughn. Not very funny, but the film had so much heart and a great cast, I really enjoyed the movie overall, despite not laughing. IT is the same way. I wasn't scared, but the cast and story more then made up for it.

I too also think since we all know who will live or die, it kind of takes the scare factor away.

I didn't get scared (maybe the house scene) but I loved the imagery especially with
[Show spoiler]the headless corpse.

IT is a film that has everything from heartwarming moments to real life humor, everyday domestic problems, and the most terrifying horror immaginable. It is most definately superior to the original and Skarsgard's Pennywise is phenomenal, and I love how he talks, "Take it." He got Curry beat.

This time I almost teared up when Georgie got it. Ok, maybe a little because I definately got choked up.
I'm wondering if this is part of what stems these giggling idiots during horror films. I feel like they try and prep themselves ahead of time to laugh at everything so that they won't get scared during and after the movie. Basically a defense mechanism.

As much as I want to see mother I understand why people would hate it. Not sure why people make a big deal of the audience hating it. It's not an easy or fun watch

I guess a creature clown monster eating kids is okay for most. But
[Show spoiler]A biblical type group of people eating a baby who is suppose to be Jesus isn't. Along with kicking mother in the face again and again after giving birth before. But yeah. I guess it be better it were a clown that ate the baby.

Don't click on the spoiler above if you haven't seen the movie mother! yet. It is a MAJOR SPOILER!

They hate it cause they feel its boring and doesn't have enough jump scares likely.

That's why people love name brand movies for. They know what it is from previous other films. hence, remakes. sequels and CBM are so popular.

Most moviegoers go to be entertained. They are not film buffs like us, so I understand why aren't interested in unique movies like mother!.

Please don't derail this thread because people don't like mother! It's par for the Aronofsky course, so this isn't a surprise.

So they want stuff dumbed down?

BTW i'm not saying this film is dumb or dumbed down. I liked this new version over the original.

Just seems people wanna watch a movie full of cheap jump scares (Something like The Bye Bye Man or Unfriended) rather than think about something. because thinking Is hard. Why so many don't do it.

Okay. I won't stay anything else. I was just talking about what something asked. But that will be the last comment on that other movie.
