Put it in a big box like Halloween's 15 disc set. Charge an obscene amount for said box so Mickey can build more parks. Everybody's happy.
I think Disney is waiting until 2020 to get the full rights on Ep 1,2,3,5 and 6.

I think you mean 1-3, 5 and 6 (unless you were going in release order).

It's a tough one for me. If they were to release the 4K restoration - George's latest versions, as Pablo Hidalgo said they were - on UHD disc then in all honesty I'd cave in and get them. I sold my Blu Saga set a while back because I was so annoyed by the new changes and also the janky 2004 HD masters being repurposed again, but with proper new transfers then that's one thing ticked off from my list of annoyances.

Fingers crossed they'd remix the audio for Empire and Jedi while they were at it to remove the nasty clipping on the DVD/BD mixes of those two, although in that respect it's a case of be careful what you wish for: Disney's mastering house seems to employ someone with hearing problems because the dynamic range is quite frankly ****ed on most of their recent BD/UHD releases. So it'd be a choice between the super-hot BD mixes or dulled-down Disney dynamic range, oy vey.

Same here. Well, not with regard to UHD (at least not yet) but yeah, I want a UOT release as much as anybody but I wouldn't turn my nose up at remastered Whatever Editions either.

I'm sure we've talked about this but I have absolutely no recollection of your take: is it just me or are effects glaringly loud in the Star Wars mix? Or maybe music cues are really low? Or maybe it's just fine the way it is and I'm misremembering 40 year old movie going experiences or mixing in (ahahahahaha, mixing in...get it?) previous home video experiences.

The clipping in the rear channels is really bad when the Death Star explodes at the end of Return Of The Jedi.

I have the despecialized versions so even if the UOT was released it would have to be a perfect release for me to buy the films again.

Yes, you've said before that you no likey the newer mix for Star Wars on the BD but - as I think I said to ye in reply - whatever problems it's got, it's still not as overcooked as Empire and Jedi are, not to my ears anyway. It won't really matter once Matey McClothears at Disney's audio mixing dept (or whichever company they use for their audio mastering) gets hold of it though, the dynamic range will be cut off at the balls anyway.

Maybe not 'hearing problems' in the typical sense of the term... wouldn't someone with partial deafness want the dialogue to be louder, if anything?

Maybe it's more along the lines of "unable to deal with loudness"?

So wouldn't sensitivity to loudness still count as a hearing problem?

As an aside, is it "take everything Geoff says literally" day? Already had some dilbert waffle on at me in the Justice League thread about some random shit.

He knew beforehand he would get a huge amount of criticism that would never end and he knew millions of people would rather have the original versions, and he refused anyway. There’s isn’t a single good reason for not releasing them. He wants everyone to forget about them and eventually as more time goes by no one will know they even existed. Or if they do, they’ll think of the originals as rough drafts, which is what he has called them. That is a disgusting attitude. There is no defending that.

Can Lucas prevent them from releaseing the original versions? I hope there isn't anything like that he needs to approve the releases in the contract when he sold the company. Lucas already released the originals in 2006 on DVD so I don't think it would be disrespectful for them to release them in better quality. I don't think it would be against his wishes because he already did release them.

Let's see,.. Fox owns the rights to Episode IV. They also own the rights to Episodes V and VI till 2020. I believe that Lucas has some kind of arrangement that no one tries to piece back together the original from the leftover scraps from the editing room floor if they were even still lying about.

That was a half-hearted attempt to placate fans clamoring for the original versions. Just ported over the laserdisc transfer without even the most basic of upgrades made for DVD. Lucas has no desire to ever let the original versions see the light of day again. I hope he didn't put anything into the paperwork of the Lucasfilm sale that would prevent LFL/Disney from ever releasing the UOT, but it also wouldn't shock me if he did (nor would it shock me if Disney allowed him to put that in, because it'd be a small concession to make to own friggin' STAR WARS).

Nah, I'm perfectly happy with Lucas's decision in this matter, honestly, if it makes certain SW fans overreact with hissyfit-hyperbole.

Fox wouldn't be the issue. I'm sure they will happily release the movies again if Disney/Lucasfilm wants it because they get money. They wouldn't say no.
