The spoiler can thus be figured out from your clue, so thanks for bringing that shit out of the TLJ thread where it doesn't even belong.

If only someone had hidden the masters of the OT behind some rocks so that Lucas couldn't find them back in 1997.

Indeed. If we don't see any movement on the UOT by 2022 (so post-Fox for all but Ep 4, and the 45th anniversary of the original movie) then my money's on Lucas not letting LFL release the originals until he's dead. [edit] And I REALLY don't mean that in a hand-rubbing bwahahahaaaaa kinda way, but Lucas wants SW to be available to the public in a way which best reflects his input into the process: he alone wants to be held responsible for whether they're good or bad, and in his mind the first film in particular was such a troublesome, watered-down version of his vision that it gnawed away at him for 20 years until he got a chance to really change it, and he didn't stop there. He's made his bed and he wants us to lie in it, fine, but when he dead he don't gotta worry about the lumpy mattress or the squeaky headboard no more.
Why stop at his death? What’s to say he hasn’t included some contractual obligation that only these versions are shown: 10, 25, 50, infinite years after his passing. He who laughs last, right?
Not that I’d want it, but to hear the epic crying when/if that statement arrived in the galaxy. I sure hope folks are prepared with plenty of dvd copies.
Maybe a 4k OT release saves the day?

TPM is a terrible film but oddly enough it's probably the one out of the first six that I have the least complicated relationship with. I was 14 when it came out and thus the perfect age to be hyped for the film with no reservations whatsoever. It ended up disappointing me even at that age but I still look back on the period of anticipation fondly. And I can still half-watch it when it comes on television whereas the next two do nothing for me.

Heh, the copyright itself will expire at some point.

Sure, isn’t that 70 years after the death? Not many fans that saw it, originally, in the theatre would be around.
But we are getting ahead of ourselves. But then again, it is the SW thread.

Correct, it would still be after most of us on here expire. But hey, at least it'd be out there at last

My Force Ghost will come back after the copyright ends to watch the UOT in 100K on a 400 foot screen.

The only change that really bothers me is the added Noooooo in Return of the Jedi. It makes me not want to watch the movie on Blu-Ray.

It's not the best of the original bunch anyway.

What are the chances that Disney hasn’t released the UOT yet because they’re finishing 4K versions of all three films and plan on releasing them somewhat soon? The releases could contain both UHD and Blu-ray versions so that they can charge more.

And if George Lucas has a clause stating Disney can’t release the original versions until he’s dead, what would the point of that be? If he knows they’ll be released in the near future why would he want to withhold them in the meantime? I don’t see the motivation. If he really hates them that much I’d think he’d want to delay their release as long as possible.

That's why 2020 makes the most sense. They'll restore the UOT and only include it as part of a mega boxset of Episodes I-IX on BD and UHD. But they also know that such a set would still sell even with spruced-up versions of the 2011 cuts, so I dunno how motivated they really are to restore and include the UOT. My hope would be for some kind of limited edition BD or UHD set of the UOT, and if it sells well, they'll release another pressing.

Never noticed this change in ANH: Lucas added 2 CGI guys walking into the cantina right before it cuts to Luke entering, too.

Yeah, the technology didn't exist back in 1977 to do this.

So it looks like Disney decided it didn't want to deal with Fox's distribution rights to Star Wars so they are in talks to buy the whole company. LOL

I didn't even think about this angle when I read that story earlier today, but now that you mention it, wow... the end result could be amazing for Star Wars!

I just thought it was funny because it's probably Disney's primary motivation in buying them.
