Honestly, I don't recall that. I'd need to do a side-by-side comparison. I'm not a scholar on Star Wars. Gotta link?

Well, either way 2020 is coming, when FOX ends it's strangle hold over Star Wars. Disney would be stupid not to do an UOT.

If Disney releases the unaltered OT, would the FOX logo and fanfare still be there?

On the first one, yeah. On Empire and Jedi, not sure.

The issue is, and why it's there on the first one is, 20th Century OWNS the first Star Wars, for release, until 2019/2020. That's why the digital collection is just that, Digital, and the only one with the 20th century is E4.

The fox fanfares are part of the dna of the original trilogy. If they did remove them from a UOT release, I'd still want a fan-edit with them added back

So you’re saying any Star Wars Blu-ray releases from Disney have to have the 20th Century Fox logo at the beginning but the digital releases don’t have to except for Ep. 4? So FOX’s release rights to Ep. 4 don’t include digital releases?

How come you always hear people complaining about "fake CGI or green screen" in the PT, but never in other effects-heavy space movies like Guardians of the Galaxy?

Disney evidently found a loophole in Fox's current agreement (expiring May 2020 according to some documents that Disney filed) which permitted them to distribute the movies on their own DMA service, EXCEPT for numero quattro because Fox have the rights in perpetuity so this loophole didn't apply, natch.

Thusly, movies 1,2,3,5,6 were on DMA minus the Fox logos, opening with a tweaked LFL logo that had its own little bit of score tracked in from Star Wars, and they didn't have access to 4 at all: https://www.disneystudioshelp.com/de...__SUPPORT.html. So if you wanted 4 on digital, Fox logo included, you had to go to iTunes or wherever. To muddy the waters a little bit further, I caught the beginning of Empire on Sky TV late last year and it didn't have the Fox logo, it started with that same tweaked LFL logo:

Because they don't look like crap or out of a video game in Guardians of the Galaxy?

Serenity came out the same year as Revenge Of The Sith and they probably had the craft services budget that Sith did for the entire film and it looks way more organic to me.

Prove to me that you can do most of the bigger effects or environments in the PT without CGI or green screening.

I know of someone who actually is very upset that Revenge of the Sith didn't have any real outdoor location shooting.

He said:

"Using background plates does NOT make it a location or outdoor shoot. They shot every scene that was supposed to be outdoors IN A STUDIO, WITH STUDIO LIGHTING, instead of shooting it outside the studio using natural light. Which, in turn, makes everything look fake. They filmed the damn thing in Australia, where sunshine is readily available. So why use studio lighting when he could have easily have shot the stuff in natural light and make things look more natural?"

Is he right, or is this just nitpicking?

Why? Nearly 20 years' worth of advancement in the CG industry, that's why. The nascent technology was fantastic when used in short bursts or for an extremely stylised aesthetic (e.g. 2005's Sin City) but that kind of literal wall-to-wall usage for a live-action film just didn't work all that well. We as viewers weren't accustomed to it either, it was so far ahead of its time, and I think that baggage kinda stays with it too. Without George taking those steps then we wouldn't have these incredible looking CG extravaganzas that we have today, nor the level of near-seamless melding of the practical and the digital in something like Fury Road, it's just a shame that some of the most anticipated movies of all time were his digital proving ground, sacrificing story at the altar of the almighty ones and zeroes.

I still think Phantom Menace has the best "integration" of the CG VFX into the live action though because it was shot anamorphic on 35mm, there's a level of in-camera idiosyncrasy which the CG has to match and that made it look so much better (IMO) versus the unforgivingly clinical look of Clones. And yes, all three prequels had masses of miniatures and whatnot but in Ep II the depth of field on the models is all wrong (owing to the tiny 2/3" sensors on the CineAlta cameras), and everything looks so digital that it might as well be. Thankfully Sith's digital cameras were greatly improved and the CG integration was far better than on Clones, not perfect but it really does look a lot classier all-round (terribad CG clones aside).

Incidentally I watched the deleted rebellion subplot from Ep III just yesterday on youtube, it really should've been in the film but what would we have done without that lengthy Obi-Wan/Grievous chase sequence, eh George? Reminds me of him junking the stuff with Amidala's family in II only to add in that ****ing Mario Bros foundry scene at the last minute. Just....ugh.

And I've already said that the top-to-toe CG-only clones look aces to me, even in Ep II's Geonosis showdown, but whenever they paste Tem Morrison's head onto a CG body, yikes. The all-digital doubles of Morrison and Bodie Taylor standing around Obi-Wan during that briefing in the hangar bay in Sith are bloody awful too.

Note that Fox only has the TV rights to Episode IV (due to the fact it owns full distribution rights to Episode IV, but Fox doesn’t own the film’s intellectual property). Lucasfilm/Disney retained the TV and digital rights to the rest of the films, so that’s why The Empire Strikes Back does not have the Fox Fanfare when it’s broadcasted on television.

Yes, that's what caught me off-guard. I thought the Disney loophole extended just to their DMA service but clearly it extends to the TV rights as well, probably because those are negotiated with specific broadcasters to run for just a few years, so Fox's involvement with the TV side of things post-2012 ran out whenever the deals did (with Ep IV holding on in perpetuity, natch). Sky did a deal with Disney in 2013 and renewed it once more in 2015.
