The Z680 has an optical port on it I believe, so they can.

The Z680 is a simple reciever already, you don't need to, and in fact, looking at it, if you were to set it up with a reciever, you need to make sure to run some either optical cable, or analog cable from the reciever to the Z680's reciever. And well, the problems with those speakers really not being tested with a real reciever only through the Z680's reciever is really just not suggested.

If you want to run a reciever setup, sure, I'd suggest running analog audio cables out to the soundtouch control center and keeping the speakers connected through it and the subwoofer instead of connecting any of the speakers directly to the reciever.
