Yup. That's something they are going to have to work on.

I am sure the application of such thin panels might have a decent sized list, however for the home user - there is not much of a gain if any. When you are looking at it head on, you will never know. From the side, yes. However in free space - gaining 2 inches is not that much of a deal.

I can see multiple panels being connected on a wall as one unit. That would be interesting to see. Then again, I have always hated the thick black grid that went along with a setup like this.

I disagree, I can think of at least 3 gains if I owned this cool TV.

1: I could immaturely in-your-face anyone that would come see my cool TV (Homer Simpson style)
2: If I need to move the TV around it would be easy as I'm sure it's not heavy at all.
3: If I decided to hang it to the wall, the chances of it crashing down would be insignificant compared to current heavy flat screen TV's.

1: You shut up!

2: It would be lighter, but not much. Why? Well, they would have to brace it with something to prevent flex. Steel, is the cheapest alternative. Aluminum would be better, not sure though honestly. Just a guess.

3: I have not heard of any tv "crashing down" from the wall. If it does, someone did not mount it right

2: Not if it's an OLED TV. I've heard OLED screens can take some bending.
3: With a super light TV you just have a better peace of mind. Some walls are made of plaster and even with a properly mounted system, a + 100 pounds TV Set mounted on a plaster wall would make me nervous.

PS: 1: IN YOUUUUR FAAAAAACE

It's not OLED, that's for sure. The tech is too new to produce a panel like that.

Why do we need them to be so thin? Like it was stated earlier there is going to be a need for a connection box with everything taken out of the tv. That is kind of lame...i'd rather have a tv that is 2-3 inches thick (funny how that is thick now) than having a 3mm television that i need to connect everything to a box which i now have to find a place for.

The 50 inch pioneer that's in that photo weighs in at 41 pounds. Just in case you're wondering.

Well, that's pretty damn light.

I am liking the thin panels a bunch. I am really liking the boxes that come with them. Allows the panel to remain constant, but upgrade the hardware. Hmm, interesting
