Box office doesn't denote quality. Horror, in general, suffers because people flock to the theatres and settle for works ranging from mediocre to disastrous. That's why we keep getting stuff like The Nun instead of more movies in the vein of The Witch, It Comes at Night, Hereditary, The Lords of Salem, and Halloween II (2009). The genre is about as dead as rock music.

Maybe you would have enjoyed the movie more if you were paying more attention to the screen and less attention to those 5 hot dogs you were scarfing down.

We also live in a time where there's is no middle ground. It either has to be awesome or the worst thing ever. Nothing can just be plain ol fine.

I will be seeing it again, so it's possible I'll warm to it.

Anybody notice that during the end credits, right toward the end, a song played based around Jamie Lee Curtis's improved lyrics from the original film? "I wish I had you all alone/Just the two of us." It had sort of an older country-western vibe. I didn't even make the connection right away until the list of songs scrolled by and one was credited as being written by Carpenter, Curtis and a couple other people. I stumbled across an interview on some website last night where the director mentioned he hired a band to write a song around those lyrics and that it could also be heard on the radio just before the father and son find the bus crash.

Didn't one of the trailers have Curtis singing those lyrics before firing on the mannequins in the backyard?

If I hate a movie, I see it again in case my first experience was clouded by poor mood, terrible atmosphere, etc. I think it’s fair to do that.

Regarding a sequel,
[Show spoiler]haven't they kind of painted themselves into a corner? If they bring JLC back, again, and actually do some kind of "final battle" series wrapup, then everybody will say it's what they should have done with H18.
And if Jamie Lee doesn't return, it's just another generic horror movie about a guy in a mask wandering around killing people. There's just no "there" there without Michael AND Laurie.

Maybe they should do Season of the Witch, Part 2...

That's the problem I have as well. I wouldn't mind a sequel, but then again there must come a time where the story has to be put to rest. A definitive ending. Which I thought this to be.

But it seemed more of a setup/Round One fight between Michael and Laurie. In other words, this was only the 'awakening.' Hell, it should've been called "Halloween Awakening"

It's symbolism. In the end,
[Show spoiler]all three Strode women survived Michael's attack. Allyson now has Michael's knife which is phallic in a way. Saying she's got him by the dick metaphorically.

Legacy of evil.

[Show spoiler]Myers passed it to Laurie, Laurie tried and failed, sort of, to pass it to her daughter. But it was handed down to her granddaughter.

As much flack as 4, 5, Curse of Michael Myers, H20, and Resurrection get, this one takes the cake.

There is no atmosphere. There are no scares. The acting is shite. The script is shite. The directing is shite. The cinematography is shite. Themes set up are squandered. The music is malignant and uninspired.

if you like this, reflect on your taste in horror movies.

This always the problem with these types of threads,it's just like The Last Jedi discussion, people that like the movie just tend to get on with it,whereas some people who don't like it tend to be far more vocal, and seem intent on convincing others they are somehow wrong to like a particular movie,I personally liked the new Halloween movie, but I respect anybody's opinion who did not.

Movies like this will always be very divisive,as people will always want a perfect Halloween movie,of course certain people will not have a clue to what route or script constitutes a perfect film, but they do know when one is released that it did follow a mythical formula that they never knew they wanted in the first place.
