This is the first time I'm visiting this thread and the first time I'm chiming in. From the time it was announced, all the way through the production, through post, through marketing, all the way up to release, I have never said a word. I saw it finally on Monday, and really, really truly went in with an open mind and even a bit of anticipation.

I have to say, though, even after giving myself a few days to think it over, I must admit that I wasn't terribly impressed with it.

I certainly was never bored, it was entertaining enough, and it wasn't the worst or anything. But it definitely has enough issues that I can't say I like it.

Just briefly, the opening pre-credits sequence (I thought) was poorly done right off the bat, then the opening credits were clearly just an homage to the original. Then, for about an hour or so, I liked it OK. Like it wasn't a great film or anything, but it was alright for what it is. Then, the final third or so hits and it becomes absolutely terrible for the most part. Which nearly ruins it overall. Moments that clearly were supposed to be 'A-Ha!' or 'Yes!!!' moments, had me absolutely cringing. I could go into greater detail, but would rather not discuss heavy spoilers for a just released film.

Anyway, definitely not my favorite. I saw it with my wife and adult son, and they didn't care for it, either.

Overall, beyond the hype and all, it's really just ultimately benign and forgettable.

Unless you wanna talk about being a direct sequel 20yrs or more after the fact, in which case Psycho II did that in 1983.
I was talking about Laurie.

Laurie is in Halloween II, so technically only 17yrs later and like I said before: Psycho II beat it to the punch anyway.

I find it hilarious how everyone was super excited when it was announced Blumhouse was making a Halloween film.

Now that it's been released, and news of a sequel everyone is all upset about it.

This is a horrendous and unfettered piece of tripe with no redeeming value. Those involved should now be seen as talentless hacks who have no love for the iconic villain and his arch-nemesis. If you're going to disregard decades of canon, make sure your movie is better than those it is supposed to replace. As much flack as 4, 5, Curse of Michael Myers, H20, and Resurrection get, this one takes the cake.

There is no atmosphere. There are no scares. The acting is shite. The script is shite. The directing is shite. The cinematography is shite. Themes set up are squandered. The music is malignant and uninspired.

if you like this, reflect on your taste in horror movies.

Correct. Because Resurrection knew what it was tonally and delivered on that. This one didn't.

Resurrection is the cinematic equivalent of watching someone perform an abortion.

The crucial issue. The replacement is a giant, steaming turd.

Apparently, us life long horror fans don’t know anything about horror!

I kinda get the impression this film was going to get the same reaction off certain people regardless of its qualities. I mean, calling the soundtrack shit and also JLC who was fantastic from start to finish.

Well, when I spend $30+ to see a movie, I want to ensure the money was worth it. It wasn't. So you can bet I am bitter about it. In fact, I saw the movie last Friday and I'm still miffed about its existence. I should have known that the banality known as Danny McBride would have seen fit to inject his brand of comedy into the movie, shaking up the tone. He Marveled it. Eff that guy.

You're doing it all wrong if you spent $30 dollars on a movie ticket.
