[Show spoiler]1) How do we know Rey is too OP as you say? We don't really know anything about her background other than what Ben tells her and he could be lying. You only think she's OP because of what you have seen in the past with other Jedi.

2) Even the largest and most organized military forces can have poor commanders. That's what we have in this instance. The First Order was overconfident. This was reinforced by the fact that they didn't expect a single X-Wing to attack a Dreadnaught.

3) It was only the planet near what was left of the Rebel fleet so it was a logical assumption. It certainly made sense to me. Kylo sensed Leia was headed towards the planet through the force and followed her.

4) Not sure why this matters. You have two different directors of the two films so you're going to have two different interpretations of Luke.

5) It doesn't really matter if they show the history of the Knights of Ren. They are inconsequential as to what happens in Episode 9.

6) We don't really need to know how Snoke and the First Order came to power. Since I have read almost all of the books/graphic novels it would stand to reason that the First Order was established with the remnants of the Empire and Snoke was there to pick up the pieces where Palpatine and Vader left off.

7) I never got the impression in TFA that Hux was intelligent. He's a an Imperial General who Snoke trusts because he will follow Snoke's orders no matter what. I felt that Piet was much more intelligent than Hux in TESB and ROTJ.

8) It doesn't matter what he wears. Maybe the robes are comfortable or maybe he just didn't want to wear something else.

9) From what you've said you appear to have had a preset plot in your mind and you are disappointed by what actually occurred with Luke's character. I personally felt that Luke's decisions made perfect sense and he was even able to redeem himself by allowing the Rebels to escape by stalling Ben.

10) The film was already well over 2 hours long. Ackbar was featured briefly in TFA and that's fine with me and most viewers.
Half of your answers have the phrase "It doesn't matter..." Is that really the way you want to pose your counter argument? Its very dismissive to what I thought were very good explanations.

I'm not saying that it doesn't matter to me, but that it doesn't matter in terms of the story.

9 Luke's characterization. Building off point 8, Luke believes the Jedi should end. The three trilogies were supposed to represent Luke learning from the Jedi's mistakes.

- Prequel trilogy: Jedi cause their own downfall by ignoring their own teachings

- Original trilogy: Luke becomes a Jedi and learns about the fallen order

So logically, as Lucas planned, Luke should have re-established the order, learning from the Prequel Jedi's mistakes. Instead, he makes the same mistakes again, ignoring what would have been a perfect three-part story.
While I don't have a preset notion in my mind, like re-establishing the Jedi Order, I do agree that Luke does a complete and abrupt turnaround from the progress he made in the OT. He proved that the Jedi can embrace emotional connections and attachments and succeed where the Old Jedi Order failed. I would have been fine with a wide range of narrative possibilities but the give up and quit one was disappointing for me.

I have seen perfectly valid criticisms stated many times by many posters on this forum. There is a reason why TLJ threads are so active all the time. In fact there are some who complain that there is too much discussion.

I do too but goes both ways. It's a testament to how passionate and strongly we all feel about the franchise. It should be worn as a badge of honor IMO

Absolutely, and someone criticizing decisions made in a SW movie shouldn't be so threatening to those that love it.

I said she was too op for a character who has had almost zero traning and very litte knowledge of the force. Every era of Star Wars, the Old Republic, the Bane era, the prequels, and the originals have all gone by the rule that training is necessary to know the force.

Of course one can be naturally good at something, I'm sure Rey is naturally strong, but you can't do something without learning how first. Some people are naturally better at driving than others, but they still have to learn how to drive first. Rey is good at the force without ever having learned.

We see Rey accomplish major feats in the film Jedi with training could not.

Because a single X-wing attacking a dreadnaught was a poor decision, hence why they were caught off guard, it didn't make sense. Had they never sent out a single tie fighter it would have made sense that they never thought of it. But they did, they sent out 3, which makes it worse.

Fair point

Because regardless of the director, a character is still a character. They shouldn't change who they are in-between films. Imagine if Harry Potter went from himself to a nihilistic ex-wizard who believes it time for Hogwarts to end in minutes. It just wouldn't make sense.

Who they are or their history is inconsequential, I agree. My point was where are they? If they're Kylo's apprentices, why aren't they anywhere to be found considering Kylo needs help defeating Rey.

Granted, this may be resolved in the next film.

Yeah, but one shouldn't have to read the books/graphic novels to learn. Imagine if Episode 5 jumped to 6 with Vader dead, the Empire gone, and the Republic in power. It wouldn't make sense without an explanation.

I certainly got that impression, after all, he's been trusted to be a general. But even if he wasn't, its certainly a major change from him being menacing and Nazi-like to the butt of a joke.

The actor who played Hux said he thought the character changed between the films.

Perhaps, but it's quite hypocritical for him to hate Jedi and dress like one. It'd be like hating priests and dressing like one.

In reality, we know this is because JJ wanted Luke to be the Luke Lucas intended, and Rian did not.

It wasn't my preset plot, it was Lucas's preset plot that was clearly set out by the prequels and original trilogy. It's the equivalent of heavily foreshadowing something and never doing it.

What's okay with you isn't necessarily okay with others. That's fine if you don't care, but others do. When a film is over 2 hours, 3 seconds wouldn't make a difference.

As I said before, I can respect the opinion of anyone who liked the film. I do not, but it doesn't bother me if others do. I'm simply tired of being called a hater, or a Russian troll for disliking a film.

I would (happily) trade everything that has come since (films), for the original trilogy to be restored to what it once was.

I agree, though we have some pretty dang fine fan-made preservations/restorations done from 35mm prints for SW and ROTJ. They're called 4K77 and 4K83, respectively. 4K80 will be next.

Thank you, you just saved me from a massive multi quote post.

Yeah, that looks nothing like any of the ships from the OT.

Dunno what the hell I remember seeing. It was like 20 years ago, at least.

And yet I watched the movie like last year and still misremember it.

Speaking of remembering things, I also re-watched the Ewoks cartoon around then and I think I saw the series finale as a kid because although I didn't remember the story, I did remember how it made me feel, and I remember feeling frustrated because they spent the whole episode building up to the Emperor's appearance and then he never actually appears on-screen. And this was also before I'd ever seen any of the actual movies so I had absolutely no idea what he looked like or what sort of character he was.

Some cool concept art I came across for the Nemodians/Nute Gunray in Ep 1

Their look is similar to battle droids because apparently Lucas intended for them to have been their designers, but then utilized the original design partly for the Geonosians in Ep 2 when it was revealed they were responsible for the droid factories.

What does the Kamino (the blue guy beside the clone) have to do with the Geonosian? Different species.
