Default HD DVD troubles on XBox

My husband works at Best Buy, and he said the last few days, people have been returning HD DVD's because they are unable to view them on their x-box. Apparently they can watch the older ones, but are having trouble with new releases. Go x-box

On a more general note, this is why retailers would prefer one format. Customers are already confused enough as it is, and the retailers are the ones who have to actually deal face to face with the unhappy customers.

Even if only BD existed, customers would be confused between DVD and BD. Having HD-DVD hang around only makes it worse.

No matter what format people are, they're still stupid and don't update their systems

Speaking of XBOX, my nephews XBOX died for the third time. They are sending them a re-manufactured one and some BONUS stuff because of all their problems. They said they wouldn't send them a new one because it would just break down again. So I thought, what about all those people buying new ones? That's just plain stupid to buy one new considering they just pretty much stated it will break down on you. Also, I went to Best Buy today and they had tons of PS3s on a table display, like they were planning on selling a bunch of them quickly. BTW they were all the 80GB version.

Microsoft should have ordered a recall of the XBOX 360. Keeping a product on the market with a 30% failure rate is just unethical.

They effectively did, covering all decks for 3 years against the problem

thats somewhat ethical, more done cause they HAD to. If it threatens their cash flow then they gotta adjust. if they let that slide that would be throwing buisness away as in the videogame industry there is meanigful compettion. as who wants to by a defective console with little or no gurantee it would work for so long.

Actually I read in EGM that the only 360's with the premium components are the Elite's, and not the Core or Premium. I work at a Wal-Mart, and our electronics department has a set up for a Madden 08 tournament for tomorrow night. Well there were 3 360's in the claims department in the back. David, a guy I work with said they were for the Madden 08 demo, and all three had the Red Ring Of Death. They were all BRAND NEW systems. Even if people still buy the lower priced systems, and have to return them M$ is still getting money from the consumer. We had plenty of all three versions in the electronics department but absolutely no PS3's in stock, of either version.

There's no "premium components", and all Premium systems are now shipping with HDMI ports

They either have the heatsinks or they don't, but it's not listed on the box whether they do or not. You have to peek in and see

All the premiums with HDMI have heatsinks.

Microsoft is covering shipping both ways and fixing them for 3 years from date of purchase. How are they profiting from that?

They are still profiting because they are still selling the systems irreguardless of the red ring problem.

by appearing they actually care about customers in their time of griping so maybe one would see, oh they have a generous warranty, maybe we should buy from them in the future. shallow i know but thats the reasoning as they want to keep that buisness going

Red rings out of the box are manufacturing defects. The problems the 360s have been experiencing is a DESIGN defect that requires months of usage to show itself.

The systems that have started hitting stores now have the problem corrected. If you're worried, look for Premium systems that have an HDMI port

Newsflash: Rare is the company that gives two craps about their customers beyond emptying their wallets and making as much as possible.

By what you're asking for, MS is BETTER than Sony because the mass PS1 and PS2 drive failures both required class action lawsuits to get a limited window of free repair, instead of a blanket 3 year warranty.

just stating the reasoning MS is "apparently" showing. not necessarily saying its better, just i think thats their train of thought in pulling a fast one on the public that "oh we made a defective machine"
