Had a day to think about episode 3 now and I still think it was underwhelming. All the build-up since season 1... I can't imagine this is how George RR Martin envisioned the final showdown between the dead and the living.

I guess this is the price we pay for the producers squeezing two huge finales (the other one will deal with Cersei) into the same season, a season that only consists of 6 episodes.

Our heros' armies are depleted. On the other hand, I don't think the ending of the series will be a grand conventional battle at Kings' Landing.
Euron is allied with Cersei, but Yara is up to something and will be seen again.
Cersei will have the Golden Company defending King's Landing from a northern attack. If Yara can amass enough ships, an attack from another direction is possible. Or does Cersei march on Winterfell only to find the Tagaryens have left by another route.
Possibly, the Golden Company may not come into play at all. If Cersei can be taken out, who then will the GC serve and for whom will they fight?

The real drama is between the main characters, not their armies, and will play out in the halls and alleys of Kings Landing

Stop watching and stop posting in here.

Seriously. You have done the same thing in the walking dead thread. It's not about "writers can do no wrong". I enjoyed what we were given. There really isn't anything I think that could satisfy you for yesterday's episode.

I've already mentioned many critiques I had about the episode but I still enjoed watching it and have several times.

I honestly don't understand how you can go into each thread after every episode and complain over and over. Plenty of other shows or media for you to invest your time in.

What do you mean us diehards that argued with you for weeks about you thinking all these deaths were coming, NK would win etc.

are blasting the show for both its action direction, lack of plausible battle scenes, and plot armor, along with its source material choices for how it was filmed and edited.

Theres like 5-10 people with west coast customs, special edition plasmas, and magic Edge lit LEDs that liked it. Otherwise most people are bringing up the serious flaws with the episodes in regards to some of the other amazing battle sequences that we've gotten.

I mean she was pretty cheery in that Now we win the next war YAY, and unsullied marching like they hadn't just gotten mopped lol.

Soooo I'm not sure what their troop count is lol

If its as implausible as the battle sequence we just saw, I'm sure she's got plenty of new troops

I actually had no problem with the scene itself, but Jon's attack on the Night King reminded me of this, minus the arrival -

I like to be the negative Nancy on this forum. I’ve never seen a forum full of more delusional fanboys , dweebs , Star Wars Disney comic con avenger nerds. There’s even people on this forum who worship Jennifer Lawrence ? Some really embarrassing sad stuff.

So what exactly would you want? Movie epics get a trilogy of 3 hour movies and do there lore and battles just fine GOT has had so much content over the last 8 years. How would you propose to extend a battle with an army of the dead once they have broken the wall and are running through everything 1hour 20mins is almost feature length.

Did anyone else love the look of the night king in this episode he looked more evil like the season5 version again I get serious micheal Myers vibes from the dude

The last thing i’ll say about this episode is that a lot of folks are taking extreme positions—either it’s the greatest thing they’ve ever seen or a total disappointment.

While I lean more towards the former than the latter, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Overall it was very good imo...extremely intense.

But there were a few decisions made by D&D that I simply didn’t understand.

Like not having the White Walkers directly involved in the fighting. What sense does that make? How epic would it have been to see any of the following engaged in single combat with a White Walker?:

Jon
Jorah
Jaime
Brienne
The Hound
Greyworm
Tormund

...didn’t make sense to me.

Anyone who says the episode was perfect surely is either trolling, or a super fanboy. I'm sure there's something we would all change about last nights episode.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but we never saw "how" Ghost survived his initial charge along side the Dothraki. We know he survived, because of the promo for the next episode, but unless I missed it, we never saw Ghost again past his initial charge. I would've liked to have at least seen him fighting in the battle, or retreating, anything.

Sam surviving was ridiculous for sure.

However I can believe Jorah surviving was somewhat believable. During the stampede rush, his horse was drifting farther back into the calvary. And he didn't have a flame sword so I think once things went south he immediately turned back and not having a flame sword made it easier for him to use darkness as cover. And at least they showed like a handful of horses and dothraki running back and retreating.

I definitely wanted to see the skilled swordsmen take on a WW. Like Jon, Brienne, and Jaime.

But I think they waited back because it was easier to just let the wight numbers overrun them first. Remember that killing a White Walker would probably eliminate a few hundred under their control.

Honestly, I was a bit underwhelmed by it. Lots of craziness and it was big in scope, but it didn't seem all that impactful? Kinda like this whole White Walker thing was just some self-contained sideshow. Our main characters seemed to have no problem cutting through the endless zombie hordes. Other than Edd, I think everyone else died because they chose to have hero moments (such as Jorah sacrificing himself to save Dany, Theon protecting Bran, Beric helping Arya and the Hound escape, or Lady Mormont standing up to a giant). Guess it served to thin Dany's forces a bit (especially the Dothraki). Otherwise, I'm still not really sure what the Night King was all about or what he wanted. Other than to kill the Three Eyed Raven and just everyone on Earth?

Yeah. However in Beric's case he was doing what he was brought back to life for, and that was to save Arya to allow her to do her job.

Lady Mel's last task from the LoL was to give that Pep talk to Arya.

Technically Edd died saving Sam lol.

Speaking of Lady Mel, when Arya, Hound and Beric enter that room Mel was in there already. And there lots of dead wights on the ground in the room.

Did Lady Mel just take out all those wight walkers herself lol

I took it as the white walkers have a hierarchy and the leaders/generals dont get their hands dirty unless forced, they let the grunts do their bidding.

They didn’t have Ghost after that cause they said it cost millions to have Ghost and dragons in an episode that’s why they’ve never been seen together. Why’s HBO have the people as producers if they are being cheap. HBO should have gotten people who was willing to put some real money in to this show.

So after watching this a bunch of times, I think it's pretty clear (at least for me) the NK wanted to watch the dagger hit the floor, look up at Arya's final moments of despair, and then snap her neck.

He did not count on her catching it.

I didn’t hate it. It was super tense and had me captivated the whole time. It just seems so much was left on the table.
