Loved the episode. Didn’t love that we still have no clue what the NK was all about though. Seems like they just abandoned some seriously quality opportunities to enrich this show with an extra twist or some kind of extra depth.

Still fired up for the rest of the season though!

Absolutely! Not everyone has to agree and doesn't mean you should confine to unpopular opinions!

I would have liked more story with Night King, especially his obsession with Bran outside of the Three Eyed Raven story, but here's the thing, he had to die at some point. In a way, this shows just like how many GOT characters, how easily killed one can be with a dumb luck or bad timing.

I wanted more Tywin, and he was shot on the shitter by his son! Sometimes the endings aren't epic.

As long as you have a decent argument/explanation for those feelings.

To tell someone "Well you might as well stop watching it then" is pretty childish. Especially if there are three episodes to go. It's like telling someone to stop running a marathon on the last mile. However painful it is, might as well finish!
I think it depends on whether you’re criticizing a particular episode with a well reasoned argument of the story, which is fine. I’ve certainly done it before with GOT.

Verses coming on a thread like this week in and week out and complaining about how terrible the show has become.

If it’s the latter then yeah, maybe stop watching and funnel that incessant negativity into something positive, like a show that you actually like.

...something other than dumping on a show and getting a reaction.

Watched episode 3 again today. Some of the complaints I read about were, why they just didn't fight behind the castle walls from the get go. Let's think about that for a moment. Well, as far as castles go, Winterfell isn't exactly huge. If we look back at episodes 1 & 2, we see the various armies camped outside the walls. There simply isn't enough room inside the walls to house everyone. Even if you managed to have a 100 men in the courtyard, ready to do battle, it simply wouldn't work. You need elbow room to swing a sword, or thrust a spear. The open battlefield is where that's done. I would imagine, no matter how well a battle is planned, you always have to take into consideration, the unexpected. It's just too convienent as a viewer to say, they should have done things this way instead of that way. Some people like to blame the writers of the show, and that's fine. I don't think every episode in the series has been extraordinary. But, looking at the big picture, and the series as a whole, i'm (as a fan) extremely happy with what the cast and crew have given us. It's been a great journey, and i'm highly looking forward to the final 3 episodes. It's gonna be a bittersweet fairwell to one of my favorite shows.

Yeah, I didn't think the episode was horrible, but fell short of my expectations.

I felt great after watching it...then...about 10 minutes later, I started picking it apart, asking myself, "Wait a minute, did anyone important die in this Final Battle with the NK? Nope."

I'm really cautious now on the next 3 episodes, and can't resist the forecast of watching excessively drawn-out drama and probably even more blood and fighting than what we saw in EP03. And if this happens, it will put EP03 on the back burner and make it what many of us viewers thought it was...which was a little lackluster.

Cersei was totally taken out of the final battle with the NK, so this is rather odd. It's too bad the NK couldn't have dispatched a group to her (realizing her vulnerability as she secluded herself from the world thanks to her selfish ways), taking her out, and just before she gets eaten, she has this scared look on her face and cries for her brothers, who are not to be found nor can they hear her screams, as loud as they have ever been.

The killing of the NK happened way too fast. This being has been so smart for all 7 seasons...and now he can't sense Ayra flying through the air, attempting to kill him and retorting his grasp with a simple slight of hand with a knife? What about his generals? Nobody fought them during that battle. They were seen only in a few instances. Nobody fought them. Why?

A lot of questions remain, once you've watched the episode, and the adrenaline goes away from "Yeah, the Night King is dead!"

Here's a wild conspiracy theory of mine: The powers that be decided to reduce the Night King and the White Walkers presence in EP03 and use them as bait for the upcoming series to be, forcing fans to get their fill of the new series spin-off. Hope I'm wrong, but I never underestimate producers and studios these days, sucking more blood out of something that a White Walker could never do.

I watched a 3rd party video about the timeline of the GoT series from Season 1-8s starting and it basically shows the Children of the Forest seemingly taking a random man and turning him into the NK as we saw on the show and stated how NK and the White Walkers broke free of the Children of the Forest and set about trying to kill everything else as they were originally created to kill mankind.

I think GRR Martin maybe just wanted the NK of the show to be 1 note and he was going to expand him out in his own books since the shows passed him and he dkes say they will deviate and be different from each other in regards to main character deaths etc.

Personally, the NK never exhibited any motivations. It was all exposition by others and we had cool fight sequences of undead heightened by the human element in them and the horror element of the undead. Making NK an existential threat and dealing with him may not have been narratively interesting as viewer to some, mainly because i think some wanted him to turn around and go "I'm taking back my throne!" *dun dun dun* and have some kind of deep reveal he's a Targareyn or something. That's why some were thinking he never got burned. Yet Jon apparently is Aegon, son of Rhaegar yet got burned. Only Danerys has show fire resistance thus far in the show it seems. That or Jon had to die and be revived to become a true Targareyn which is stupid in kther ways.

Personally i love pretty much how everything shaked out and many years later, we very well may be getting a much bigger and expanded TV series spanning many, many more events directly from the book.

Who was the person that convinced Danerys to go to Winterfell and fight White Walkers instead of just focusing on Kings Landing? People seem to ignore how pivotal of a role that was. Yes, it wasn't the "Killer blow" but honestly, in the grand scheme of things, what does that matter? It didn't deliver some sens of emotional payoff people think they deserved?

With Danerys army pretty much all gone there’s a rumor that the second sons will show up. Anyone think that is a possibility? Honestly I don’t see how they would reach her in time.

Jon was the one who convinced her to fight the dead. They wouldn’t have had to worry about them if he didn’t fall into the Night Kings trap and give him a dragon.

Na I think it’s just a case of it being better to have the characters doing more emotional human drama for the final hours instead of facing of against a lot of white walkers at least this way characters can interact properly and get a sense of closure in the show

They couldn't have predicted he'd do that to a dragon by himself though and it created extra tension and suspense for the viewers and lead to a cool scene. Honestly, isn't it boring if there's no twists and turns people don't expect? The dragon fell deep into water and the NK literally fished a dragon out to reanimate it. They couldn't have known that.

I found the episode quite cathartic after eight years. Really enjoyed it and how it panned out was kind of what I expected and more. Really well set up and done.

Don't really care about the Night King's motives, or what Bran was doing while he was "away". Now left wondering how the hell the next three episodes will pan out.

HBO and the GoT showrunners must be upset that all everyone is talking about after the episode is how dark the image was...this was one of the most hyped episodes in the history of the show...

You cann count on people to nitpick crap like that though. The showrunners went with a dark scene for atmosphere but the poor OTA compressions and what not even affected VOD it seems and really didn't get across the cinematographers intent well. So it's a legitimate complaint for show and a mark against streaming imo being this "Be all end all" future for media over physical releases. I guarantee you the physical releases properly mastered would exhibit little to none of the issues people complained about on adequately calibrated TVs.

IDK I went back and watched it a second time without all the expectations found it to be much easier to follow and the darkness of the picture did not bother me as much. Granted this time it was from a DVR recording on my cable box so maybe that helped a little. I did enjoy it much more the second viewing.

It really did not seem as grainy and blocky like a bad cam recording downloaded from the internet as it did during the initial broadcast.

but how many people who watch the show are going to buy the Blu-ray?...the showrunners should have anticipated the compression issues and adjusted their filming...either by making the battle occur partially during the daytime (or pre-dawn) or adding more light sources...less then 50% of fans are going to buy the Blu-ray and even fewer will get the 4K Blu-ray...you want to make your product look its best for the widest audience possible...not for the 20% of people with $2000 calibrated TV's

I have a plasma 65" Samsung usually set to Vivid settings which is fine for most broadcasts, I can tell you the initial broadcast looked blocky and dark as all hell. When I watched it on my DVR last night it looked a lot better. It had more of a natural light feel to it but I did not see any of the blocky squares I saw during the 9pm showing on Sunday. I think something was off on the broadcast from HBO itself because yesterday it looked totally fine and not as compressed as it was. Granted I believe my cable provider runs at a 4:1 compression ratio for their channels.

I don't know, maybe instead of all these people complaining let the story play out first! How do we know if Bran/Night King story arch is actually finished? I think there is more to Bran than we know yet. Also, all this hate for a female character landing the final blow. Nothing better for me than to have all these macho guys on this board always crying about women.
