That makes no sense to me, considering the fact that
[Show spoiler] he was destroyed halfway through the season.

He’s not the central figure of the story or the show in general.

...he’s not even top three.
Again, it's just a placeholder.

Sansa (as described in the books) and Sophie Turner have blue eyes. Replace Sansa with Cersei and you might be on to something!

He’s not on the Season 8 cover as there isn’t official art for it yet. Also, marketing isn’t done by the showrunners.

The only thing I could think of, is Gendry being the last Baratheon has a claim to the throne.

Sansa wouldn't be happy if another Baratheon or Lannister were on thrown. Arya, defending Gendry probably wouldn't like it.

But again, I don't see it happening.

By 'everyone' are you referring to the comments being made in this thread? If so I'm sure that the many, many people who gave their best and who worked and poured their sweat into this particular episode for months really don't give a rat's a**. I suspect that the vast majority of the millions of people who watch and love the show were mezmorized by what they saw, were quite happy with the plot development, didn't care if a little dramatic licence was used, and are eagerly anticipating whatever follows. The nit-picking, second-guessing, and negativity that some posters seem to be enjoying wallowing in is just silly, tedious, and pointless. It's a television series! a fantasy! If you think that you can write and produce a more successful product then by all means give it your best shot.

Your main argument here seems to be that since it's a fantasy TV show we shouldn't have any standards or expectations and that we should just set an incredibly low bar for everything so that we're never disappointed.

Anyway, the episode is getting plenty of criticism (and praise) outside these forums. It's a polarizing episode. Which is fine.

It seems to me that cinemas would get in on the GOT popularity and host these episodes on the big screen. I know I'd pay a ticket to come see these episodes on a giant movie screen.

Hitting the nail on the head. It makes no sense whatsoever. A show's genre should not be used by anyone to excuse / defend shitty decision making by the creators / producers / directors of said show.

I just watched the scene again and a few seconds before Aria appears you can actually see one of the white walkers reacting to something that's whizzing by. It seems Arya turned into The Flash and just ran right through the horde of the undead.

But after seeing it again I have to say, holy sh!t, the whole end sequence is really fantastic! Surely some of the most cinematic TV in history. I don't really get the criticism for this episode; I guess this show has really spoiled us ...

Just another reason Blu-ray needs to stick around. FYI - I was fine with the natural lighting choices though for this particular episode and it was watchable on my TV with all of the room lights off.

cinematographer says its not his fault and the episode is fine. he blames people trying to watch it on their devices or in rooms with the lights on.

I had originally thought she had assumed the identity of one of the WW generals, and that was her looking to the side, as the White Walker... right before taking action.

That would be a legitimate criticism if this was a movie.

This is a TV series for HBO where the majority of fans are watching it on their televisions with the lights on. This is a series actively promoted by HBO on their streaming services with special apps so that people can watch the content on their devices. Most viewers are not home theatre enthusiasts.

I watched it in a darkened room with a DLP projector - a setup which is always going to struggle with dark low-contrast content and the picture was watchable. I was able to identify all the recognizable characters who inexplicably were not being killed despite being relentlessly surrounded by attackers.

Ideally they should have created a TV version for broadcast and DVD, and a more cinematic version for BD/UHD.

They did episodes 9 & 10 of season 4 in IMAX a few years back. I went to a show in Toronto. I don't know if it was Canadian IMAX theatres only.

lol this.

I don't know a single person who's watching this on a 4K display.

The apologists on this forum need a reality check.

I have to admit that I expected this type of scenario to occur myself. Perhaps the two year hiatus hurt it's popularity somewhat?

I was holding my breath throughout that last episode. Arya Stark is my spirit animal.
